Get a CCU upgrade to one... that way you're only in the hole for $15 or whatever, but you've got the price locked in just in case you decide you want one in the future

I like the Liberator as well as the Ironclad, they are both very good ships, similar, but not the same goals. With Pyro on it's way and more systems coming, a ship like the Ironclad is almost a must have for a Firefly/Serenity nomadic style of play. Having a very flexible jack of most trades, depending on what you put inside the 1500 SCU hold is great. Whether it be a fighter for bounties, a ROC/Prospector/Vulture, a C8R/Nursa or any combination. Myself, I want to do the long haul cargo runs and while doing that, explore opportunities to discover derelicts, rescue others, scan for resources etc. The Ironclad has extreme long range, 4 large shields and armored. I really hope CIG goes the rout of individual bunk rooms like the Corsair. The Ironclad could also be a mobile central hub for a land base, that can be moved from one resource rich environment to another. I feel that I will be able to pick up almost any mission in my journeys through the Deep dark of the verse.

That assault version is just a typical Hurston ship, so they made it yellow for em! Red is a pirate color!

Yep, I was just thinking typical Drake ship ... escape pod/bridge/ship has 6 seats. So you'all in those 34 jumpseats ... are on your own.

Since I have a c2 I just picked up the upgrade to the base ironclad. Since the loaner is a cat, I will wait to apply the upgrade when the ship actually comes out.

3 size 3 shields are equivalent to a capital and the 4th is disabled at normal operation or your engineer shuts down power to other items to divert power to 4th shield for a stronger shield

I think the IronClad is attractive. I am a bit disappointed in the IronClad assault. These are rumors about the Assault and have not been confirmed. The following are based on the ever accurate market brochure. 1. No retracting Roof 2. No tractor beams. 3. Repair/Rearm/Refuel facility is only for ground units. Given the above, I think the Liberator is a superior mini Space Carrier 1. Carries 2x more ships, double decker design. 2. Only requires two people to operate it. freeing up the rest of the party to crew the ships/vehicles Liberator does have its negatives 1. Only beds for two 2. No repair/re-arm/refuel facitilities (CIG stated you could refuel /re-arm/replace damaged components manually from the cargo area) 3, Only 1 S5 turret, and one S2 automated point defense turret.

They did confirm assault will have retractable roof, like the stock, and tractor beams, as well as confirming the repair bay and fabricator will be ground vehicle only, via the Star Citizen live. As for the Assault's purpose, I feel it is over gunned for what it will actually be doing or capable of doing. The extra turrets are good, don't get me wrong, but the assault won't replace the Valk or Steel as a combat dropship. The singular exit for both troops and tank make it utterly useless for a combat drop, as enemies could knock out the lead tank, and the 3 behind it suddenly can't get out because the ramp is too narrow, and 20 seats is the same as the Valk. What I think the "Assault" Ironclad purpose will end up being is more of as a mobile tank repair shop and logistics ship. Landing well away from the front lines, letting those assault turrets collect dust on the ground, and only moving it's cargo load of 4 combat tanks when the frontline moves a few clicks, or it's time to leave the planet.

Pretty sexy ship, I stuck with the liberator though, cause it can also take 2 size 1 ships and a shuttle on top, but is less defended. The ironclad reminds me of the C2 and the ironclad assault reminds me of the M2, I originally had an M2 cause I wanted to drop novas and centurions into the field of battle with a heavily armored transport ship, I guess now people can pick between offerings from both manufacturers.

I love the idea of a large cargo ship that doesn't have to deal with the crap that is the Hull-C lol. I'm not sure if i want to pick one up quite yet so I just have a CCU from a Prowler and will wait 5 more years until its in development lol.

This is a really nice general purpose ship, there's a lot for your money here if you CCU. It isn't for me either, though, and I like the small crew size of the C2 (and the real life aircraft aesthetics ). I plan to stick with the C2 for future vehicle hauling (industrial vehicles I hope, like the big construction vehicle that looks like it uses the Atlas platform they showed in the Citcon base building presentation), as well as standard cargo deliveries. I think it will be incredibly efficient for deliveries in atmosphere, where I feel the Ironclad will be very poor in this role and more suited to space.

Ship color means absolutely nothing as there is no hiding a 120 meter long flying box in the sky that is going to have a massive radar cross section profile that will be seen long before it is visually spotted and the Cat which is cargo is red so sticking to that theme makes sense.

I understand your point yet we don't have a yellow USS Ford. Even if it didn't matter there is something to be said about the aesthetic matching its function. And of course personal tastes comes in to play as well.

Hope the Assault's top opens up. If not, how does one bring a broken anything into the repair room, like a tank? Can the hand tractor move a tank? Will the crafting room let you make anything above size 0?

The M2 has pilot controlled guns though. To me thats the biggest deal. Repairing ground units only is not something I care about at all. Putting the "cool" factor aside , if you are a solo player the liberator is the absolute better choice. The cargo Ironclad seems like it has a place for cargo or part of a pirate fleet but the assault I think falls pretty flat..

I already updated my C2 to a Ironclad as I can buy C2 in game. Less than 50 usd to do it so a bargain. Went from 696 C2 SCU to 1536 Ironclad SCU.

You can compare this to a C2 all you want, but they're different ships. One of them is going to be enjoyable to fly, especially in atmosphere. The ironclad is going to fly like a garbage truck. I like it, but I'm not going to throw one away for the other. If I had a Cat, then I'd totally trade that in for an ironclad.

I agree, a C2 is a whole different ship. A C2 only has medium fuel Capacity so it's mostly an in system cargo hauler, where as the Ironclad has 2 Large quantum & 2 regular fuel tanks W/3 Large fuel scoops. It is for deep space traversal and transport across the galaxy.

i dont want the top bridge to pilot the ship that is a logistics and engineering command center whats wrong with using a cat as your C2 replacement? i have a cat and a C2 and i bring the cat because i lol at C2 pilots who try to land and clip the hanger and die when the cat fits with ease and nearly as convenient

C2 probably handles a lot better and will be faster. Also I dont think the ironclad will be well flyable solo. So I keep my C2

The answer to whether you should buy a jpeg of a ship that won’t be out for 2-5 years, will be purchasable in game for UEC eventually, and which you’ll only be able to crew ~5% of your playtime, at absolute best, is “No. Never. Not ever.”

how does this ship kill a lifter? the lifter is far more agile the lifter is in game. the lifter has a front and rear ramp the ironclad kills nothing but it does meet larger needs. it does bring more players together drake is king at multi role ships but a master of none
