I am 5' 10" about 185 lbs and bought the large in the nupste jacket. I have long arms and don't like to be constricted when I cross them. The large follows your torso very well, so it fits about the same as the medium , yet has that bit of extra sleeve length. Non down filled products do tend to show extra size and bulk when worn. It does not look too bulky compared with the medium. These down jackets were never designed to be worn alone in wet conditions. They fit under a goretex shell when the temperature is near or above freezing. The first time I used my nupste jacket was at work during a cold snap in the Wasatch range in Utah. The temperature was near zero along with a wind. The jacket worked perfectly. One added point about anything in the retro line. They went back to the old sizing which was gender specific. If you usually wear a large in most north face clothing, try to drop down to a medium for the same fit. The sizing is pretty inconsistent so it is always a good idea to at least try on something similar in a store. Josh, check on the Lhoste jacket. It is essentially the same jacket with a little different look. My medium lhotse is a bit longer than my large Nupste. A large Lhotse may be perfect for you. Yeah, I live near an outlet so I have a few spares lol.

Very well said. It’s too bad they didn’t make it longer. The HMLYN is a much better option as well. I guess the short wide look was a 90’s thing, but it definitely makes this coat a tough one to recommend for someone’s main coat.

Yes, they are still in high demand - even though it is more than 25 years ago it was created. Originally designed for rock climbers etc. it was adopted for use in the city a long time ago. I bought my first one in 1997 after I saw practically every climber wearing one. The rest is history. I now own dozens of them, in a wide variety of colors, sizes and generations. Today, it's more a multi-purpose jacket than ever: still, climbers see a good, warm, stowable jacket while the young generation see it as a fashion jacket. It truly is a NEARLY all-purpose jacket. The only thing you shouldn't do with it is use it in the rain! For that purpose, TNF created the Gotham jacket and the McMurdo parka (which, of course, are also in my collection).

The only thing I'd say about this coat in regards to something it lacks is the coat material being unable to resist water. I'd recommend that you avoid wearing it in rainy/wet conditions because it seems to me that it can become less appealing if it gets wet often. Other than that, it is a great purchase.

The gray sleeves were stained with red-clay and it had stains from sap but never quit working. That and an OG Denali fleece kept me alive basically. Great jacket. I won’t buy another down jacket without a hood though. After decades of this.. a hood ads about 50% more warmth and absolutely worth it I think. Good review. It depends on how am you are going to use it. Both coats will keep you warm, but I always say - if you’re looking for your main winter coat, go for the Gotham. It’s too to bottom one of the best winter coats out there. If you want something for the winter for style, and you have another winter coat that’s more rugged, go for the Nuptse. Hey brother, Happy new year! Sadly this coat is shorter than average :/ I’m 6 feet 175-180 ish. I probably should have gone with a large. So for you I would start at an XL just based on your height. I know it’s tough when you’re tall but also skinny or athletic. But with this I honestly think a large would be way too short. Like in my vid, even a large on me when I stretch up has a lot of stomach showing. But not a huge difference in puffiness. This is a puffer coat so I don’t think it’s gonna be anything crazy on your frame even if you choose an xl. Hope that helps a bit!

I have the same dilemma. I am 193cm tall but less than 70kg in weight. REALLY skinny! I need an XL, otherwise the sleeves are too short, and YES, the shoulders are in fact too wide, that's the price I have to pay. Shoulder-wise, a large would do perfectly.

@@wimbletone Honestly, the Nuptse is a great coat. Very warm...just not the most functional - and if you saw my other sizing video, its also a short boxy fit. I think the Patagonia you have is definitely better in some areas except maybe the current trends fashion aspect (as the retro Nuptse is a hot ticket item). The fill power of down of your Patagonia coat is more, but its lighter so it most likely wont be as warm. The hood in the Patagonia will be more robust and warmer though. Yours is windproof and the Nuptse is not. So they both do things better and worse. But in terms of a "go to everything" winter coat. I wouldn't put the Nupste in that category. Just as long as you dont get it soaked i think you will be okay though. Truly

Hey there Mike! Thanks for stopping by the channel and for watching the video. The warranty does not cover rips - unless there is a tear due to a defect. Here is what TNF states : If a product ever fails due to a manufacturing defect, even after extended use, we will repair the product, without charge, or replace it, at our discretion. This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, negligence, normal wear and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use. Damage not covered under warranty will be repaired for a reasonable rate and a fee will be charged for return shipping -- And in regards to the down fill drooping or falling out, none of my north face coats have experienced anything like that yet. And they have had a good bit of use over a few winters up here. Hope that helps ya brother!

Hi there Fatima! Thanks for stopping by. Yea, I’d say you would have to go with a men’s XS or even an XXS. Seeing that you’re sub 100 pounds and thin. My gf needs a men’s small (she could probably even get away with an XS). And comparing your size to hers, I think you’d need either a men’s XS or XXS. I haven’t seen what an XXS looks like though in men’s yet :/ Do you usually like to layer under your coats with sweaters or hoodies? Or just wear a coat and a tee / top ?

You should take a look at the Gotham jacket, that may be very well what you are looking for. Don't like that fixed hood? If you can find one, the "Ice jacket" (essentially the short version of the McMurdo parka) would be the right one for you.
@timmomeyer16263 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion, you took just one size too small. Sleeves are too short, and that explains also why the total jacket length is on the short side. I have dozens of Nuptses myself, so I know the problem of it being quite short. Most of the time I just go for a XL. Detail: the Retro 1996 Nuptse is even SHORTER than the original from let's say 1997.

@@Joshua88Graham Yes, I know :-) I don't really have ONE "go to" coat, parka or jacket for winter. As I have 100+ down jackets, it's really up to the weather to dictate what kind of jacket I'm going to use, and then I can choose in that category whatever I like that day :-)

Hey there Akashdeep! Happy New Year. I agree. It’s definitely either a fake or possibly used. You won’t see discounts like that from a store or retailer on North Face Products. The best site is one called thelasthunt.com - at best you may see 40 -50 percent reductions. So I would probably stay away from buying unless you’re okay buying a possible fake.
