I want to know your thoughts on this lens. Have you used it before? If so, did you enjoy it as much as me? Let me know in the comments below!

I've known about the Sigmas forever but since i've shot m43 or Sony most of my life i've always slept on them. I A cam a cinema camera with an EF mount now and have invested in a few Canon L lenses but i'm really starting to want a set of the Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 as my shooting requires speed (self-shooting cinematic cooking videos) and messing around with primes just isn't feasible for my workflow. After researching the Sigmas i've arrived at the conclusion they're somewhere between Canon and Zeiss with their colour rendition and character. I'm using mist filters more these days to take the digital sharpness off my L lenses so I assume it should translate to Sigma too

Yes, it should translate to the Sigma lenses. I try and do as much as I can in camera so mist filters are a good option to remove the sharpness :)

Very good video. I am looking for a fast lens for night shoots with my old C100 mk2. Currently have some decent f3.5 and f4 IS lenses - do you think this lens would improve on these?
@jarodparkerdirector16 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes, this is at 2.1 so good in low light and maintains sharpness. Some cheaper lenses that have a really low aperture like 1.8 or even 1.5 sometimes have really soft focus and chromatic aberration so look out for that. Depends on the cameras general low light capabilities and native ISO, these are suppose to be good: store.sirui.com/products/night-walker-t1-2-s35-cine-lens-series?variant=45538352496866

Sigma 18-35 or a 35 mm prime lens ? Which is good for short film making?
@jarodparkerdirector Жыл бұрын
What do you shoot mainly?? 18mm - 35mm is really flexible but a 35mm prime will be great at 35 but you’re limited So all depends what you shoot or looking to shoot??

I think I’m the only person with this setup who finds the lens soft. Using focus assist, I hit focus with the eyes as the focal point, and it doesn’t seem sharp, even with no diffusion. Would love any thoughts if anyone else finds this, or maybe I got a dud lens.

@@jarodparkerdirector I mean it’s a cinema camera so it wouldn’t have AF, but yeh it takes getting used to in manual focus for sure.
@jarodparkerdirector Жыл бұрын
You can increase the amount of focus assist you want on screen so maybe go to 30% and not crop the image AND don’t go all the way to f1.8 stay at f2 or f2.3 to stay sharp

Great video! Just wondering, which ProMist filter did you use? 1/8? 1/4? What are your thoughts and recommendations with the filter?
@jarodparkerdirector5 ай бұрын
Hiya, great question, it's the 1/4 black pro mist filter from K&F. Link below: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08T66J7GR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Good filter but you can tell it's a cheap one and I've stopped using it as I feel I have more control in the edit.

@@jarodparkerdirector Thanks for the reply! What do you use instead for narrative work to remove some of that clinical sharpness?
@jarodparkerdirector5 ай бұрын
I use Dehancer (digital to film converter) I did a video on it down below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6fMloCBpLllmdksi=ymAxVusV48Vv-fpB If you are interested make sure to use my discount code: JARODPARKER10 It's really flexible and customisable and if you just want things like bloom / halation then you can just edit that + grain etc. Dehancer: www.dehancer.com/shop/video/aepr I've just used it to edit my short film so I'm honestly saying it's a good investment for narrative projects :)

Hi Jarod. I was thinking of getting the EF-S one for my bmpcc6k pro but a lot of people are saying because of the super 35 sensor that the 18-35 is not really 18-35?
@jarodparkerdirector Жыл бұрын
I would say don’t get the EF-S as that mount is even more designed for APS-C sensors (which the BM is not) why don’t you just get the EF mount like I did?? There is probably a slight crop with the Blackmagic sensor but you can see in the video I can still achieve wide results

Hey jarod. Can you please elaborate on what you said about the sigma and the sensor dying out? You mean using the sigma in a aps c right? Im getting kind of outfocus image with my sigma and bmpcc6k pro but bm is s35.
@jarodparkerdirector8 ай бұрын
So the Sigma 18-35mm was meant to be on a APS-C sensor and when I did my research it seemed people thought the APS-C sensor was dying out in favour of S35 and Full Frame So why get this lens if you want something future proof with APS-C sensors dying?? However, I think it works absolutely fine with my BMPCC6K Pro which has an S35 sensor

@@jarodparkerdirector Sorry for the late replies. Thank you for taking the time to help Jarod

@@jarodparkerdirector APS-C and s35 are nearly the same size , depend on the brand. Your blackmagic is 23,10mm x 12,99mm (it's saying super35 on the website) and my aps c Fuji XH2S is 23.5mm x 15.6mm but they say its aps c. So Talking about super35 is not often the right words for talking about sensor size ( the real 4 perf film super35 is 24.89 mm × 18.66 mm) . The 18-35 work on super35 and aps c . I have try once on a full frame s1h without cropping and it work on a 4:3 frame with a little of vignette(i think i was at 24mm)
