I really agree with you. I personally don't own a sketchbook. I draw on a sheet of paper. If it is just a sketch, then it goes into a sketch bin that I own. This bin holds the sketching I do. I have other portfolios for my better work.

I think I like drawing on both, just depends on what I'm trying to get done

It all depends on the mindset. There's nothing wrong with any paper that you draw on. The goal is really to do what works for you and not be pressured by other people's preferences.

haha they're actually called junk books. I keep several sketchbooks to avoid the anxiety. I have a junk book made of a copy paper, a nicer sketchbook made of Bristol, a small pocket book for commutes, and a watercolor book. I make my own these days since I like smooth, thick paper for ink and I agree that it's just hard or expensive to find books with the right paper. I think the important thing is just to figure out what works for you. As long as you're drawing, it doesn't matter too much what you draw on.

a "shit book" would make a good piece of merch. I'd buy it.

Great video as usual. I am more of a paper person, but i dont mind drawing in sketchbooks as well. With regards the first page of the scketchbook, i am glad that you discussed this topic becuse iade a video about it last week.

I love sketchbooks, because I can take them everywhere. I have sketchbooks dedicated to more finished artwork and if I really like the piece I'll scan the artwork and use my lightpad to transfer it to a nice piece of paper, sometimes I just put the lightpad under the page to transfer it. Also sometimes I just redraw it on a thin piece of paper, make mistakes and fixing them and then transfer it to a better and thicker paper. I also have some transfer sheets. It just depends on what I feel like.

I’m picky about mine. If I don’t like it I tear it out. If I like it too much and want to hang it up I’ll tear that idea. It’s more of an idea book.

Some people view that as cheating, but you are right that should be utilized. I mean, with printer paper you wouldn't shy away from throwing it away right? I'm not trying to judge you, I just agree that we should be more lenient with ourselves, if we can learn from shitty art, we can improvise, adapt, overcome.

I always leave the first page in my sketchbook unmarked, that avoids the corrupted sketchbook problem. Personally I choose to draw on loose pages unless it is not an option then I go to the sketchbook.
@DanBeardshaw3 жыл бұрын
I get that, but there’s always going to be that first page you draw on. wether that’s 3 pages in or whatever 😅
@larryconkoljr.89153 жыл бұрын
@@DanBeardshaw you can always make the first page a "Title Page" also.
