The case for ducting is to push the dry air into a finished space when the dehumidifier is in an unfinished space, with a passive air return between the spaces. That's what the company shows on their web site.

When I asked this question to Alorair, this is what they replied: "The unit dehumidifies the air on the air intake side. This means that you need to keep the Sentinel HD55 in the same room you want to dehumidify"
