My 15 year Senegal was a rehome. My bird bit me, my wife and son many times during the first 6 months. His wings were clipped and now 11 months later most of his flight fearhers have been replaced. He no longer bites out of fear nor out of being capricious. I was his main caretaker but then my wife started taking care of him more so now she is his favorite. He still likes flying on our shoulders but we are training him to reduce that! My personal feeling is that it is selfish having them as pets. They should be free in the wild. I live in Canada and fhe poor guy has to stay indoors in winter! I am his 3rd rehome! Now he loves us. Wants us to head scratch him all the time, he takes a shower with me every other day and he now loves being completely under the shower. I am not going to rehome him but I will never participate in creating demand for babies. Rehoming is challenging. You need to understand your bird, not the other way around. If you start with that mindset you will be successful! Good episode!

That is exactly what I have been thinking. Should I ever find myself in a position to properly care for a bird I would only get an adult. I kind of think it should be illegal to breed exotic animals of any kind, particularly birds. Breeders I have found are not always reliable. Some of them are just in it for the profit. I watched a great show on Cockatude…Chloe rescue last night. It actually told the story of a number of cockatoos that have been suffering as pluckers and had horrible behavioural issues. These cockatoos are now all fully feathered and much much different birds. The reason medication… Just like us humans when we experience trauma we suffer PTSD or other issues, those can be medicated with medication, it is no different with these birds. The avian vet was just amazing he was also a behaviourist so I would encourage you guys to check that out. I’ll put the link to it in another reply. I have heard one person who has a KZbin channel and the comment they made was that they could never see themselves putting their birds on medication. I thought that was one of the most selfish things I’ve ever heard. Save your bird for heaven sakes…don’t bring in your bias. I thought we were past that shaming.We have mental health issues so do animals…particularly animals that have been abused. I also think you should have to pass an exam and a home visit before you get a bird or a dog or a cat. Anyway I probably to watch too many dog rescue and bird rehoming videos. I’ll go look for that link now

Cons: Baby birds personalities can change over time in means they can be harder to tame if they are not bonded to you. Another reason why birds fly away from their owners since they thought they have left their nest. Birds choose their partners or companions. They even can forget what they have learned. Its better to train them during teenage or young adult years.

Could you make a video about parrots that are ok for busy owners? Or those who don't require much hand on time ......
@parrotsco.32242 жыл бұрын
Don’t think those parrots exist, it’s more of a cat you’re looking for. I feel like having a parrot is like having a kid, requires time/energy/consistency but sooo worth it.

A parrot which doesn’t require much interaction is an untamed one. If you’re content with a few parrots in a large aviary with enrichment, then that’s fine because the parrots dont get attached to you for social interaction.

Hi!! Question: Do you recommend to get a baby or an adult if there's another bird already in the household?
@parrotsco.32242 жыл бұрын
Not a huge difference maybe in the beginning but you will have to work with the baby through it’s hormonal phase into it becoming an adult. Babies are moldable at an early age but you also have to teach them everything. With an adult it’s more of what you see is what you get to start with
