we don’t spent 6 months gathering data to make a decision. what engineers really do is to make estimations based on existing facts and move forward fast; we allow the room to adjust and scale along the development. it’s 2019(or 2017 when the video was taken), no one waits for 6 months to collect data anymore ;) you simply can’t risk the time and $$.

I can affirm much of what you said. I went through the program at Penn State between 1982 and 1984. However, it never paid off. Thirty years later, I still scare employers. Now I am trying to find a salvage for the degree after decades of severe underemployment, unemployment, and bankruptcy. I just happened to find your channel, as I am once again looking into financial engineering. After a very disappointing nineteen years with one company, they no longer exist. Now I finally have a permanent, fulltime job that requires a high school diploma, and I am seeking a career again.

which is why I seek insights, such as this channel. I did pursue an update in a certification, but it did not happen. Apparently a certified MBA never officially existed. As for financial engineering, I have gone back to the math. Using MIT OCW, I am astonished how little the courses at Penn State covered calculus and its progeny. Thanks for the sympathy, but my main thrust is to confirm your video. In fact, Penn State at the time required its MBA students to take a communications course, which I have continued with Toastmasters.

@@BuddyNovinski hey, good point... how are you doing 2 years later? I think if you study something about math and statistics you could get better jobs because of you fit bettet the market. Theorical things? Buy an read a book of each field, design a program and be discipline, and you will save a lot of money, investing better your time instead. Sorry if I do not talk very well my English yet.

Good Video and I agree that an MBA has a diverse amount of knowledge points that make you a stronger strategic consultant however it can be too broad unless you are in the right company. I now find that I am going for a license and had to go back to Accounting courses to qualify to sit and be eligible to become a CPA. MBA's can be very disposable. With a CPA or other license type, you have job stability more so especially in this new era of 2021 and beyond. Thanks Zach for a great positive video!

I hope open a debate: I'm agree with this, but think about it: you can learn to think about how to solve a case alllocating limited sourcing if just working in a relative field, reading key books, starting a company, finding a mentor, looking for success and failed cases. Even if you go to a MBA, all it is up to you. In many business school they expecto that you could get enought experience and meaning achives to get in and in this way they make sure that you will be a great professional, but you already are a great professional with that value! So, where is te added value to you?, and what is the difference with choice a cheaper program but with good profesors? If any difference, will that difference be worth compared with the price?..... Whats if the real added value is that only that reclutants think that you are smart enought because of your track needed to get in, and maybe, to finish it successfully? Whats if you only got a added value depends of the field you are targeting? What if just it is a way to prove your knowledge in Administration if you want to get a job if you have'nt a background in Administration and prior meaning experince? Im not whole agree when he said that engeenering do not study cases with lack of information. It's the opposite! But I understood what he means, because he means that applied to a business case, where you need to know how really run a company.

You have given me more confidence in pursuing an MBA. Gotta say I really appreciate your content.

When I looked at MBAs it seems to me i was going back to undergrad school, and my undergrad major was BBA finance, so I personally didn’t see the value I wanted out of it, however the maters I’m taking in corporate finance is giving me the opportunity to understand M&A short term and long term financing, and some strategy as well, experience in the real world will teach you some of the great skills you’ll need to have like risk and allocating resources, if you are business minded person it comes to you easy bc basic knowledge for IT, marketing, supply chain is out there for free for everyone to know, however a specialized career and knowledge where you are the expert, will make you valuable and no one can just replace you.

MBA has spent YEARS studying resource allocation decisions ? That's a bit of an exaggeration considering the time spent learning basic core stuff in any MBA. Moreover the case studies often have well-known outcomes and students just look for plausible 'reasons' for the hindsight-correct decision. I accept your general point that (good) MBAs apply a combination of skills to make a decision in a commercial context. But I strongly question the need to get an MBA to do what any good manager would have learned for themselves. Same goes for the stupidly high fees these courses demand and the consequential salaries these guys expect.
@newtonmoon5 жыл бұрын
I think a MBA like other studies is a life enriching experience, for personal development strengthening the students' self-esteem and belief in their abilities. It is great for start thinking into other directions, and to build a network, and one's reputation; it's something prestige. However, there are many smart and successful people out there, self-taught without any formal or higher education. That means MBA holder are not necessarily better or smarter than others. If somebody wants to climb up the corporate career ladder, then going for an MBA programme or any other Master studies for that matter can't be a wrong choice. Case studies are used in other Master and diploma programmes too, it's not necessarily unique to MBA studies.

There is a wide variety in MBA programs, so it is hard to say this applies to all the different types of MBAs. I am speaking from my own experience at a traditional MBA program. I agree prioritization or efficient allocation of resources is critically important for a business - I'm witnessing it at work right now. However I have a question: I don't see business schools bringing this value proposition out to applicants clearly enough. They now focus more on labeling themselves as an entrepreneurial/finance/marketing/social impact/etc. kinds of places. Is it just me or is it true? If that's the case, does it mean Business Schools are not aware of what they're offering? Does it mean they will deviate from their true value proposition?

Such people got a top position, hired lots of people , delegate all task for another and just controlling without any own ideas. Moreover, if they did not know anything, they just wasted money for advisory from consulting companies. I think if I hired employee with MBA I should forget about consultancy costs . For other hand, it might be works if you a manager of employees from 3rd countries, where your company do the buissnes.
