I went to the same university for my MA as my BA. One disadvantage I quickly noticed was that my undergrad and my grad grades were on the same transcript. I had no way of hiding my MA from future employers. Why would I want to hide my MA? Well, it made me "overqualified" for some jobs and for teaching jobs they had to pay me more. Why hire an MA to teach 9th grade algebra, when a BA fits the bill and is way cheaper (per union contract agreements), both with not much teaching experience? I even told them I would take less money. No dice. If I had gone to different schools I could have just left the MA part out.

Thus, a fundamental and huge problem with our educational system. You have revealed dumbing-down as systemic. It has become a machine for transferring money from property owners to “school” administrators using children as the justification.

Thanks for the advice! Last week I made the decision to study for math gradschool at University of Utrecht (Netherlands), 250km away from my undergrad university. 😁

great vid! go to grad school as soon as you can enjoy math! enjoy life! later on you are just going to buy things that own you. for those young people you have no idea if you have a significant other how many opportunities will come and go because both your lives have to change.

Thank you for the encouragement and advice Sir. I'm currently a final year undergrad hesitating whether I should just continue postgrad at my current uni, or perhaps at a different uni (possibly overseas) for a different experience. Your advice do give me more confidence in pursuing the latter choice. Hopefully I can get some scholarships to make that option possible! 😆

Can you do a video on the benefits/drawbacks of going to graduate school right after undergraduate vs getting some work experience after your bachelor's and going back for further education some years later?
