My personal advice: if you're in a place where college is 100% free, go for it... they'll walk you by hand through out (most of the time) through the history of philosophy. And if you're self taught remember: philosophy is the history of philosophy, and the 4chan memes says: "start with the greeks".

In the case of being a teacher or researcher in tangential fields like cog sci I’d say a philosophy degree is well worth it. However, if you simply have a love for philosophy and wish to seek it out as a way of life; pursue reading , engage in dialogue/fellowship, take up a meditation/ breathing practice, expose yourself to things that will trigger aporia. Including the ruggedness and quiet of the wilderness, find a community of people so you avoid the traps of the autodidactic path. Spend that uni money on hard covers and trips to the mountains.

Don’t go. Look up different classes and get a copy of their syllabus and look up the material they’re reading. Buy the oldest books you can. Some of the best material doesn’t get talked about. Maybe at best, take up for a philosophy class at a community college and continue on your own from there. Philosophy is like working out, it’s something you’ll do for the rest of your life for the benefit of your life so there’s also no rush.

Would it be good to study psychology at a university and study philosophy on your own along with it ?

@@B-SharpBenchmarks Depending on the Philosophy you're reading and thinking on, you'll learn it almost by default because you'll be learning how your mind works among other things. But you can learn both without college. Unless it's for a trade or the degree has a lot of math and science involved, STEM. Probably better off not wasting money on college.

@@Emir-su8uf I have not, but looking it up. Sounds like people are making language even more complicated. It's only function is to communicate information. That communication is our wants, needs, and desires transmitted as verbalized feelings and emotions.

“Above all, do not lie to yourself. A man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point where he does not discern any truth either in himself or anywhere around him, and thus falls into disrespect towards himself and others. Not respecting anyone, he ceases to love, and having no love, he gives himself up to passions and coarse pleasures in order to occupy and amuse himself, and in his vices reaches complete beastiality, and it all comes form lying continually to others and himself. A man who lies to himself is often the first to take offense. it sometimes feels very good to take offense, doesn't it? And surely he knows that no one has offended him, and that he himself has invented the offense and told lies just for the beauty of it, that he has exaggerated for the sake of effect, that he has picked up on a word and made a mountain out of a pea--he knows all of that, and still he is the first to take offense, he likes feeling offended, it gives him great pleasure, and thus he reaches the point of real hostility...”― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Its important to know that philosophy at university means mostly learning about the history of philosophy, not how to become philosophical yourself. Thats why students and faculty members never refer to themselves as philosophers, but instead as philosophy students and philosophy professors. The german writer Hermann Hesse once wrote: »Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.« He was right. To find wisdom, you need to go your own way and shape your mind through personal experience.

No do not, especially in America. Most American universities just analytical philosophy. Or anything in university? All you do is rust through stuff they tell you to read. It's a possible to learn anything in the time frame
