Should You Help Beggars | Real Life Experience With Sathya Sai

Begging and beggars are rampant in many countries of the world. India, my dear country itself, boasts of being home to the maximum number of beggars in the world. That is definitely a statistic that pains many hearts and makes them want to do something for them. However, beggary is not a straightforward problem which can be eradicated! Please allow me to present a few points which highlight the ‘controversy’ in the problem. For starters, beggary is organised crime in many places. Sri Sathya Sai Baba Himself has said, “Do not throw coins when beggars stretch their hands for alms; help them to become self-reliant. Provide food and shelter, love and care, for the sick and aged.”
Here is a personal experience with someone in need and Swami's message regarding the same.

It still is difficult, I gave my only apple to an old lady-beggar, sitting in the park. and she throw it in the bush as soon as she thought I was out sight. So I had nothing. For nothing. And this is not the only experience. So, now I only give to Sai Organization for Seva . Even half my month-income I gave to an national organization, did not come to the needed people. When I started giving for Swami, ( I have the lowest income in my country, so I tried to do something first bit by bit) Swami takes care of me, I notice I never have short. Jai SaiRam.🙏❤️

Sai ram honestly day is not complete with you brother. Same kind of incident happened with me, around four years ago when I was in 7th class still somehow because of the blessings of Swami I was appointed in the seva dal in outer sector. So I was there in eshwaramma primary school, so there outside the gate there were two 3 beggers so as a child I did not have enough money to give.. so what I did give one of them coupon for the food of South canteen. Other day morning I met with the same old age person whom I give that coupon. And when he recognised me he was so delighted to see he stopped me since there was a language barrier he just shown his gratitude towards me, and it really made my day.... ❤ With love, Sitashav ❤😊

Your deed will be judged by Swami as good or bad n dealt with accordingly ... leave the karma phal to GOD n forget it . Thanks Aravind, this is very clear. I have bookmarked this video in case I need reminding. I most often give, sometimes i doubt. I have never asked for spiritual help with the decision however, and i will do this. Once, something in me seemed to recognise the beggar as an friend, and my heart opened up to him, and I gave something with such a smile, and such joy. He responded with joy too. It was almost as if somebody else was looking through me. very strange. Maybe it was swami!

Yes these very thoughts keep haunting us as to whether we did the right or got cheated by the person because of our kind-heartedness keeps working on our mind. But you cleared that doubt by saying that an act of kindness with genuine concern and love irrespective of its outcome will only take us to do good karma. Sairams dear...it relieves my mind boggling ALLOTT as literally zeroing my pocket to let one start his govt contract . He could complete the contract with many hurdles including his health too but as the govt pays back in part, I'm held up for (since March first week) paying back the funds borrowed by me to let his second half of contract to get completed ....!..Now got DOUBT...!!...Is it fact that I got a blow or cheated yet and now a days it's habit of doing like this...and people may think alike about me too otherwise oops!... DBY was the first time i saw your youtube. I immediately subscribed. Reason. I was thinking about sai satcharit a few days back ( i had already read it twice). And i bumped on your post regading that. The opinion expressed by exactly sinked with mine so double reason to subscribe. Your todays post also sounded interesting . I am also facing similar situation . Many anaath ashrams asking for fund. I want to give but I don't want to get fooled. i always had a doubt at the back of my mind ...but what i feel sometimes is karma is working for those beggars right ..who are we to help them when god has decided them to face their bad karma . when ever i help beggars or under previlaged i just say om sai ram . somewhere deep in my heart i feel we are no one to advocate (by helping them) ..im confused brother aravind .hope i get an answer

Deepak, there is no need to be confused. Even though the law of karma operates, it is still our duty to step in and help the persecuted, the needy, the helpless if we are in a position to do so. Swami has stated exactly this. Imagine if no one ever helped another because "it's their karma". Would you step over an injured person or animal in the street? What if you yourself needed help and people said or thought "No, I won't help - it's his/her karma"? I think you will understand that this type of compassionless and loveless and uncaring approach is the very opposite of how we should be. Ponder on this. The answers are within you, naturally.
