I’ve had this dilemma for a while, I’m currently a sophomore and I personally chose playing for an MLS next academy as I believed that it offers a lot more opportunities (scouts, showcases etc) while also playing at a high level with the best coaches. It’s all up to you but I feel that is high school is more just for fun and enjoyment unless you play for a top high school.

You should 100% play Academy if you want to play Division 1 or Professional Soccer. Coming from a player who played all 4 years of Highschool, making all state and having a senior year team that made a run to the regional finals, but is now taking a gap year playing on an MLS Next U19 Team due to a lack of college interest.

As our kids got older, we realized the supposed goal for most kids (college soccer), was pathetic for many reasons. Terrible kickball coaches, NCAA short season, education compromises that needed to be made during the season--college soccer turns out to be crap. Both our kids ended up playing university club team, which is the less-bad solution.

I played for high school soccer I did average this season I’m in Sophomore I played CM and scored 2 goals and 6 assists this season, Not too shabby

many academies are free it's not always a monetary barrier, first and foremost is skill and if you're good enough the clubs will support you

Hey man, I'm 16 and Turning 17 in a few months, I haven't played soccer in a year and a half and also suffered a really bad knee injury (almost done with recovery), and I was wondering is there any hope of me making it pro in the U.S? Or at least playing D1 College? If so, what steps do I need to take. Take in mind, I have very little team experience and the highest level I've played at thus far has been travel teams.

Why is the system in the US is so, complicated... they need to look how it's done in europe. You start at a amateur club and if you are good, if you are lucky you can play for a pro soccer club. In US high school soccer is better than playing at a pro club????????? Can someone explain to me how it can be better to play for some high school can be better than playing for orlando city, la galaxy or one of those other pro clubs?? In europe and i believe south america also it is a honor to play and get your academie at a pro club why is it in the US backwards or maybe i do not get the point😂

what about ecnl league ? it is slightly below mls and you can still get the high school experience which is what i currently do. what’s your thoughts on that league ?

@@teddyreddinger1916 For sure, We scrimmaged some of the top mls teams and had a lot of success. I prefer because i have a good highschool program where i live
