@@IronsideGeorge he could be even better if it wasn't for Evie. Like they literally had to split OG Jacob into 2 characters, because...well, we both know the reason behind that decision.
@chrismoore53337 ай бұрын
Jacob is a great protagonist and most hardcore syndicate fans favour him over his sister. It's journalists who don't like Jacob, and that's just because he is a he, and evie is a she. Of course, evie wasn't part of the game for much of it's development, hence she isn't in as much as Jacob. Jacob is the "AC Victory protagonist" tho he may have had a different name, there are many things leaked about syndicate, including the fact that Jacob was not only the soul protagonist originally, (he used to use the same outfit as George) but instead of evie, we had a co-op mode that went across the UK. In reality, evie was an entirely new creation late into development. The character of Jacob wasn't split into two, but he was made slightly more comical at times, tho he is still perfectly serious when needed, such as the pearl betrayal levels, the Roth levels, the ending, or the asylum level. The character that was the female older woman who was Jacob's mentor in AC Victory, was actually replaced by pearl and roth, so she was split into two characters, even tho a Roth did exist in AC Victory, but was fairly different to what he is in AC Syndicate. Hope this info helps, and good to see another syndicate fan! I do agree evie held the game and Jacob back as well.

Please read the entire comment as I really care about this game and want to share info and some of my views. Much info in this video is not correct, but i can see why you feel it is, with an example being that syndicate wasnt actually made by those who made odyssey. It was developed via Quebec, yes, but created by people normally on Montreal team. Similar thing went on with AC 3. The lead writer being a notable example, as he not only wrote syndicate (only jacobs part of syndicate and the general concept was written by him) but he also worked on AC1 and 2 amd brotherhood and more. Now, I love AC Syndicate and Jacob is the perfect main protagonist for the game and it's setting, despite what some will say, evie is lacking in character depth and development, and she didn't suit the game. I'd add that Jacob is actually in most of the stealth levels, and evie is mostly combat levels, because the twins are supposed to naturally be the opposite to what they want to be. Jacob is a good assassin but he doesn't want to be. Evie is a poor assassin but she wants to be a great one. I would love for anyone who sees this, to read what I've got to say. I always try to share the development info for this game, as it is a very important game to me. Originally, Jacob was indeed the only playable protagonist in the game, and evie didn't even exist as she is today. The game looked much darker and Jacob had the same outfit as George. This bit is important context. A woman called Kim belair and her friends got involved in the games development, fairly late, and they are somewhat famous for changing games to be more "inclusive" but that really just translates to more female and less white. Jacob was actually always supposed to be bisexual, and the games lead writer is in fact a gay man himself. The deep hypocrisy of Kim belair is that she doesn't care about that being inclusive, because she only values inclusion for people like her. And so she essentially blackmailed the syndicate team into creating evie as a playable twin protagonist. During an interview she can be heard complaining that her fellow devs told her Jacob is the main character, and she responded by saying she could manipulate people into thinking evie was the protagonist, by misrepresenting the twins online. You see, Kim belair was originally hired because she is a marketing expert, and so she knows how to manipulate what people think of a product. You can find this interview on a AC sisterhood KZbin video, titled after the woman who I am referring to here. Anyway, the games development ended up going through hell, and the team had to work backwards and cut a lot out, in order to add evie on time for launch. Kim belair went on to be the founder of the company called "sweet baby inc" who are currently in a lot of controversial conversation for similar reasons as we are discussing now. Kim belair since said "if they (they meaning the development team she is working with) don't see the value in what I want for a game, then I'll scare them with what might happen if they don't do as I ask." She actually said that. You can find her saying this in a variety of articles and videos about her. Just look her up and see for yourself, however take note, many journalists are her allies and lie for her. Jacob is the character shown in every single bit of leaked gameplay, screenshots, videos, development notes, artworks showing story moments are almost always shown with Jacob, and Jacob has 3 times as many concept arts that are all dated sometimes years older than the artworks for evie. Jacob also has artworks of the exact character shown in thr AC victory leaks, and this character is described as "Jacob frye." We can see on a website (if I use its name the comment will he removed for some reason) that is used for game devs to share their work together, and network, and this website has a variety of AC victory stuff. From menus screens to gameplay render screenshots, and even a display of the room people would sit in, when the team would reveal the game. It all shows Jacob frye as the protagonist, both in description, and visibly the "victory protagonist" has Jacob's face, exactly the same as it is in syndicate. The only reason the victory outfit isn't used for Jacob now, is because the art team wanted something that reflects Jacob's gang underworld story better, for his main look. Hence the victory outfit was given to George instead. If your interested, you can also find some cool black flag development stuff on that website as well. Originally, Pearl wasn't a character in syndicate/victory. Roth was, but he had a very different look and narrative role. The character that eventually got split to creat Roth as he is now, nd pearl, was Jacob's mentor. An older lady with grey hair, a black and red version of Lydia's outfit, and a silver mask to hide a badly injured face. She was the late games plot twist main villain. And the idea behind her character was later recycled into watch dogs legion's Sabine. Legion launched on the first big anniversary for Syndicate, and so many of it's ideas were actually restorations of cut syndicate narrative ideas. Evie eventually replaced thus mysterious mentor/villain to Jacob, but the narrative role of this mentor character was given to Roth and pearl, while evie would be instead, a good guy in the story. You can even spot the necklace thus mysterious mentor character had, on both Lydia, and evie but only on the box art, as evie didn't have it in the actual game. I hope you see for yourself, as I have put a lot of effort into trying to share this, but it isn't easy, as journalists rarely talk about it honestly, and those who support belair, tell lies about reduced female characters, despite the reality being opposite. Note also that the "AC victory project" mod, is a mod to restore that original version of the game. The mod team have seen all the files in game, and researched the games development extensively. They also say Jacob was the only protagonist in AC Victory, and it was indeed Jacob. Evie wasn't a playable character at all. You can check on their nexus page. I feel that if you look at the side activities, story missions, and side missions, you can clearly see the game was designed with only Jacob in mind as a soul protagonist. Evie isn't even canon in side levels, as Roth stated Jacob was seen taking down the gang leaders and conquering the city. This and so much more, add to my point. If you read all of this, then thank you for your time!

I just feel fed up with it all. But no matter how hard I work to share info, all I get from most people is negativity and disbelief. The journalists and content creators do nothing to help, and simply pander to the toxic ideology ubisoft currently pushes. I'm glad you read what I wrote. It seems to be the case that people who played unity and syndicate after all the bugs were fixed have a better opinion of them. This is why I never really had problems with these games, they were fixed (mostly) by the time I got round to them, so there wasn't much to leave a sour taste. Except one of the collectibles for me has bugged and didn't spawn, so I couldn't 100% the game, and I never felt like restarting a new game due to how grindy it is. Did you find that you could navigate without the map as you knew where places were? Growing up in and around London has that benefit haha. I agree that the villain was a little too comical, and that the combat was basically a button masher like the previous few games had become. The blackbox missions were really the star of this game, and I replayed all of them just so I could do the different routes. I also enjoyed the range of characters you meet in the side missions, it added a lot of flavour to the story. I also think your right on the money with your thoughts on the parkour. The restriction of jumping off ledges and the addition of the grappling hook meant that despite you being able to have really nice running lines on occasion, most of the time you'd skip all of that as it was faster to just zipline or carriage everywhere. I WANT to leap off this ledge so I can grab onto that rope half way down to the ground!

I think Syndicate is... Ok. The gang war stuff is fun, the assassinations are great Evie is perfect and must be protected at all costs, but the story suffers from being far too timid. The assassins, who murder for freedom and liberty, are at the heart of the British Empire and finally come face to face with Queen Victoria. What do they do to the living embodiment of all they stand against? They ask her politely to stop and meekly take no for an answer.

I actually think evie needs to be criticised because it's due to her that AC victory was scrapped for AC Syndicate, and most fans didn't like that change. Evie has no depth of character when compared to Jacob, or really any protagonist before them. Evie didn't suit the games gang setting and narrative, and some levels like an artful plan, simply don't work for evie. Many activities in the open world are the same. I feel evie is used to bully and somewhat suppress the fans of Jacob and that means most fans of Syndicate. For this reason she certainly has gotten less and less popular.

I highly recommend anyone who wasn't a fan the first time around, give it another go now that you've experienced the newer games.

I only played Syndicate about 4 months ago and absolutely loved it! It was just about the right length and the right amount of things to do and I played it completely on its own without any other games going on! I'm now playing Unity and while it looks and plays well it kind of feels like it's dragging on and I keep going to other games when I keep getting bored of it!

Just played this for the first time. Got really immersed in the first few sequences, and overall the main story missions are generally pretty fun, if perhaps a bit easy. The main let down was if you spend much time exploring at all, once you get past the main landmarks, it's a very cookie cutter world. I also understood it, but the grappling hook made everything so simple it took away the charm a little bit
@IronsideGeorge8 ай бұрын
I think that’s a very fair assessment mate; just like London itself really, no big landmarks outside of central. The world of syndicate just isn’t built for parkour.

Syndicate is my favorite game in the series. I love Jacob and Evie's brother and sister dynamic. I love 1860s London. And I love the inventive missions with going through Edward Kenway's old mansion being a highlight of mine. Never understood the hate for it.

I recently decided to play through the old ac's and when I got to playing syndicate boy was it a smooth game. Hands down the most refined AC out of the old games. Idc if the plot was bad or the combat system was repetitive, everything was so fluent, the movement and stealth system was flawless. All in all a very enjoyable experience second to black flag.

This is why I love Assassins Creed. Its identity crisis allows me to play different titles with different experiences. I love Syndicate. I love that the characters don't take themselves too seriously. I find them fun. Having access to tools, weapons, stealth, fun enough combat (multikills are sick), stylish parkour, and being able to feel like a Victorian Batman/Batgirl with the graplling gauntlet is fantastic. The gang system is grand too. Sometimes you just want to make like an autobot and roll out for a bit. My one wish is it had a photo mode like later titles, because man can i find some vistas. I wish more Assassin's creed "fans" would take a moment to quit bitching, pissing, moaning, whining, crying, and throwing tantrums and rather load in a title, take it for what it is, and when it starts to feel repetitive, stale, and boring, to just load up another title and enjoy that for a while.

I just finished my first play through. Before it, Black Flag was the last AC I played and enjoyed. Everything afterwards for a while just didn’t feel right. However, after now playing Syndicate I’ve grown to really enjoy it. Gameplay setting, and characters (aside from Ned) were all pretty great. It definitely has me going back to select titles like possibly Unity and Odyssey

I never played any AC games because " Ubisoft" until the Skull&Bones desaster made me finally start Black Flag. There are alot of AC titles, the older ones seem better and the " Syndicate" skin is quite appealing as its the newest time period depicted in any AC game and all the trains, carriages and boats make the world feel alive. It will alwys need to stand up to Unity which has a beautiful recreation of paris but in the end its a preference of taste.

I wanted to play this game from the first day when the trailer came out, because it looked great. When the game came out, I couldn't start it because my PC was bad, after a while I got a new PC and started this game. Until I couldn't start I looked at the reviews, read the comments, they spoke so badly about the game that I wanted to give up on it, but deep down I said you have to give it a chance. I gave her a chance and I didn't regret it, I felt that vibe in 1800 London is beautiful, parkour is excellent, it's the fight that disappointed me a little, but it can't be worse than Ody. The story is good, not the best, but acceptable, the characters are great, Evie is a top woman and ubisoft needs to create female characters like this so that she has a feminine side and not someone who behaves like a man. London looks fantastic at night, very good game, my rating for this game would be 8.50

What I've found about the internet is that people online love to exaggerate how bad a game is. And if you read enough bad reviews, it can poison your experience with that same game to the point where you never even begin to give it a fair shot. I'm sorry, there's no such thing as a "terrible" AC game. Even Valhalla isn't "terrible". You can call it "mid" or "mediocre" but I'm not sure if some of you understand what "terrible" even means.

I love Syndicate but between the false narrative against Jacob, and the bullying and frankly toxicity from evie "fans" online, I'm unable to fully enjoy the game, when it's community is so nasty to anyone who likes Jacob best. It's like the thought police want you to play as evie, but she is simply dull, 2 dimensional ans boring to me. She didn't fit the games gang war ideas either. For saying this, I get attacked online.
@rottensquid3 ай бұрын
This is still my favorite AC game, just for the setting. In general, I love the promise of all AC games, but I find the execution inevitably disappointing. As the hobbit once said, it's like butter scraped over too much bread, with shallow, underbaked gameplay copied and pasted long past the point where mastering the mechanics has ceased to feel novel. And now, in a world where so many games feature incredibly deep, layered mechanics, the crudeness of AC game play is just no longer excusable. I feel like every aspect of this game would be elevated simply by improving the game play. The repeated missions wouldn't feel like a grind, but a challenge. The black box missions are wonderful in theory, but in practice, they're too easy to just brawl your way through, making the unique assassination opportunities less a secret easy way than inevitably a missed opportunity. It's a shame, because I just love the setting and vibe of the game. There aren't nearly enough games like this, where you get to freely explore a meticulous recreation of Victorian London or similar. I'm getting tired of staring at a horse's ass for hours on end as I ride through countrysides. Give me more urban settings with wide varieties of activities, where the city itself is a character. Just make the gameplay interesting, or varied enough so I don't get sick of the same shallow, empty activity copied and pasted ad nauseam. Give me characters worth building, activities worth doing, an environment worth engaging with. Give me a setting that's a story, not just a pretty backdrop.

wow - I'm playing it again for the first time since my first playthrough at release date. Back then I was not crazy about it. But playing it now, it looks good, good gameplay and a decent story (4 hours in this time). I played 5 frustrating hours of Outlaws, many what a bad game - then look at this, 10 years older, and much better in all aspects. Looks great, better than Outlaws, great gameplay, better than outlaws, good story, better than ...., better characters ... just in all way, way better than outlaws

I BADLY wanted this game when it first came out. Let all the hate stop me from getting it. Got it recently tho. I'm only a tiny bit through it but I LOVE IT. Idk why so many people hated it. Yeah sure parkour isn't a main focus but it's still necessary for stealth and a stealth playthrough is absolutely possible if you're doing it right.

Syndicate is pretty darn good- but really it is Unity Lite, and Unity is the most unfairly maligned entry in the AC series. Its rep was ruined by its buggy released state, but patched it is, arguably, the best AC, or at least the most thoughtful as well as the most spectacular (the massive bug problem was a result of pushing a new console generation to its theoretical max in things like NPC density, texture resolution and view distance
