ACV is kinda a weird phenomenon. So, I hadn't been gaming for a loooooong time (since the OG Halo) and bought a PS5 on a whim. ACV was one of the first games I bought. I didn't know anything about the AC franchise except that it's "those games where you run around assassinating mofos." I tapped out of it a bit quickly since it was so different than I was expecting (which was entirely my fault for not even so much as watching a trailer for it). Anyways, I saw all this negative reception and reviews of it and felt vindicated, thinking "see? No one likes this." Then I found it actually seems to have overwhelmingly positive reviews. It's just strange that this game is so well liked among so many, yet those that like it feel like it's somehow niche when it's anything but. (Side note: Can't wait to go back and give this another shot since I finished Odyssey.

I bought the Complete Edition last year and started the game in 2023 September. Now, after 300 hundreds hours playtime later I getting closer to the end. After completed the main story, every Mastery Challenges (all gold medals earned), the Wrath Of Druids and the Siege Of Paris DLC (both 100% completed) and all Playstation Trophys I can say that I have seen everything from the game. I really enjoy and love the game. It has beautiful landscapes - I took more pictures than ever before in any games (however I've played Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last Of Us games too) and good story with good and lovely characters. BUT For me, this game is work and great as a VIKING game, but not as an Assassin's Creed game. Why? I'll explain. The original and classic AC-feeling it's just a little aspect of the game. This can be paralleled with what we see in the game: Although Eivor meet Basim and Hytham and help them to defeat the Order in England - but he never joins to the Hidden Ones and become an assassin. Yes, he use their weapons, their tactics and has connection with Isu - but he remains a viking warrior. And it's all good that way. The game good as it is. But it is not an assassin game (even though the title says so) - it's a viking game (a great one) with small AC part. That's why for me this AC game is not among the best at all. But I love it and earn 8-8,5 / 10

And every one of them is better than AC mirrage which tries to go back to "original" style with nostalgia but was lame and boring in comparison. And I love AC 1 because it actually is nostalgic. Since then I have begun to like the game much more just playing using the controller alone. I am not a fan of the immersion breaking time jump thing to 2012 and would prefer this was just a Viking game without the over arching modern day archeologist/CME/save the world storyline. This is my first and only AC game, so it may be all of them have that over arching simulation story theme. Personally, I don't like it at all. Just let me be a Viking and do Viking stuff. Combat took a while for me to get the hang of as the animations are a little overly dramatic. Timing the shots is more important in this game than others where you just spam attack. The game is beautiful though, and it is winning me over despite my gripes.

The game looks great, the exploration is great, and the main character story arcs are actually among the best in the series, along with some of the best characters. The biggest problem with the game is that it consists of the same story 6 or more times over just with different npcs. It's great for the first couple of pledge areas, and then it gets really, really grindy, uninteresting, and boring. By half way through, I was really regretting starting, knowing how much more of the save was ahead of me. At the end I felt a real sense of resentment at spending so much time completing it. I don't resent the length, (I've relayed all of Odyssey multiple times) just that it was way too repetitive, which is a shame because as I stated before there is so much good in it.

I just finished playing Valhalla the day before New Year's Eve and I am now playing the Vacation Storyline in AC Odyssey. I've put 599 hours and 31 minutes into Valhalla and would rate it around a 6 or 7 out of 10, probably around a 7 with an 8 being the highest I would go. Some of my pros: +The exploration is fun with lots to find and do and NPCs to help out and fight +The puzzles you can solve like the Tombs of the Fallen +The great side characters you can meet +The combat is fun and brutal +Great abilities to use like ax throwing +Ciara's singing in Wrath of the Druids DLC is amazing Some of my cons: -The game is too bloated (ex. Opals and small chests and large dots that litter the different maps, cosmetic items to buy and collect like tattoos and hair and facial, amount of regions in England, the skill tree is too big, too many fishing and hunting deliveries, etc.) -Most of the main story doesn't focus on the main story nor on developing Eivor's character but rather on gaining alliances. And the same goes for the 3 DLCs aside from maybe Siege of Paris. -Game is too long with the story and other aspects such as the amount of Mastery Challenges and the River Raids -Choices are pretty much useless aside from maybe a handful -It's not really an Assassin's Creed game -Easy climbing anywhere takes away a lot of the challenge I'd say the game is about the same with Odyssey. Compared to Odyssey, it has a more balanced leveling system, less gear, doesn't require as many resources for upgrading aside from maybe the foreign supplies in River Raids, has a more serious tone, has more assassin's creed elements, and the enemies don't take too long to kill. However, the story is less focused on the actual main story and the main character's struggles and growth (same with the DLCs) and is a lot longer, Greece is prettier than England with more landmarks to find, the choices feel more pointless, and it's more bloated.

@@IronsideGeorge Yeah I should have just done the 100% completion, getting all the xbox achievements, and completing the dlcs along with the add-on content and the discovery tour, or at least most of all this. However, I chose to collect all the small chests (the ones marked on the maps at least), opals, the items from the River Raids shop, and all the items from Valkyrie shop from Dawn of Ragnarök and complete all the hunting and fishing deliveries and the core challenges listed on the menu screen. Not to mention the rewards for doing these were just more runes and cosmetic items and new armor and weapons that aren't as great as Excalibur and the blazing sword. I think the only thing I didn't end up doing in the game was purchasing all the items from the different shops. As for the mastery challenges, while they do add variety having 27 of them was too much and some of them took a lot of tries to do such as shooting the weak spot of enemies combined with getting head shots and killing multiple enemies at once with one arrow shot ability.

I played this game a few months ago and I loved it, my favorite AC was Black Flag until I played Valhalla, I found most side missions interesting and fun (my favorite was the one where 2 guys are practicing raiding in their own house and everything goes wrong), the combat in this game is my favorite, a lot of variety in weapons and armor and really liked the gore feature; I didn't play Odyssey but did play Origins, and one thing that I didn't like of that game is that leveling up was very tedious and you had to do that just to move to another area and not get killed in one or two hits, or change/upgrade your gear very frequently because it became obsolete, in Valhalla you can go to an area 20 levels bellow the recommended and it's not that punishing, and you can use your default weapons and armor the entire game without upgrading everything everytime you level up. I don't get why people hate the newer games, but most of the comments I've seen are about the leveling feature that wasn't from AC 1 to 3, but it's been since Black Flag and people didn't really complain until Origins came out

I love Valhalla but so much of the community hates it and I completely see why, the game had so much potential and still does. (Adding a rant about a favourite thing of mine to do) there are a couple of side quests that I don’t finish so I can come back to. Rose’s ring and the pool party just south of ravensthorp. I often visit Rose’s father who has dementia, I feel bad for him so I always come back to listen to his story about his wife and take care of him. And instead of stealing the clothes from the pool party I often just come back to what are probably the most friendly Saxons on England and hang out, plus it has amazing scenery in that area with a cave behind a waterfall nearby. There is a fun quest where a drug that makes you wander for treasure puts you in the cave when you wake up.

Great game in my opinion. Better than odyssey. For anyone who says this game in grindy... you didnt play odyssey. I started the game by doing the tombs of the fallen immediately after norway. I am using the same gear set from then till now 50 hours into the game. Many great weapons are easy to get like the spear of leonidas. The fighting is great, the story is 85% perfect, just some of it is meh. It's a perfect Vikings/Game of Thrones game.

I really like Valhalla, I'm a huge fan of Odyssey but I really didn't like origins. For me valhalla I feel lost a huge opportunity not making raiding something more re-playebale, you have some location on the map and you can raid them once, really wished for something more infinite. I feel like this about valhalla is the problem with odyssey, there you can go and fight for Sparta or Athena infinite but with no influence, there is another hugeee wasted opportunity, these two things are my huge let does about the game, in rest o really liked them.

When it first came out, I rushed the story and never gave it a chance.. Skip to this weekend I’ve completed AC Mirage and am now replaying Valhalla, and honestly I’m really enjoying it. I feel that playing it with a better understanding on that complex story of Eivor, Sigurd and Basim along with their ISU essences has made it more enjoyable. Not to mention I enjoy the relationship of Eivor and Sigurd, Sigurd striving to be a strong leader with his brother/sister Eivor never leaving their side.

the problem i have is that the rpg trilogy might be alright games, but not AC games. stealth isnt the focus and especially vallhalla doesnt really encourage stealth gameplay with the dumb ai limited tools, and how just going up and fighting them is usually quicker. also vikings dont really suit AC imo, since vikings are almost the opposite of assassins

@IronsideGeorge It's a shame, as I was holding out for more Viking adventures in Russia and the Middle East, just to leave no stone unturned. Though I suppose in future, there's always a chance for a Ghost Of Tsushima style adventure based within the Viking Age. There's definitely a wealth of information and sagas that may prove fruitful as a full-fledged title. Otherwise, Valhalla is the best we've got for a while to come.

I have some tips to make this game feel like a true GEM and its now my favourite game that Im playing. There are some settings to tweak in options - I play on the highest dufficulty or one below that. Anyways, set the damage Eivor does to maximum, also set enemy HP to I think its +20% , this make the game NOT to feel like the previous game where mobs take like 30 hits to be killed - instead now they take maybe 3-4 which is in my opinion much more realistic. Also all enemy detection and difficulty settings on highest, the game should feel dangerous but without the healthsponge of higher difficulties. There is also the colorful vibrant tone of this game is too high, I downloaded a really nice Reshade Preset to make the game have much much more darker and grittier colors which make the game feel alot more MEDIEVAL and dark. Also no hudmarkers and other shit on screen that tells You where to go etc. I play like this and I usually mod all my games to feel like this - Dark/Gritty/Hard. Ty for reading long wall of text.

I feel like one of the most crucial parts of Valhalla that Ubisoft and the fans overlook is Basim and I like how the game developed his character. I wish Mirage expanded on Basim even more, though I understand the developers were a tight schedule for the game. SPOILERS: The part where Basim gets the staff from Layla in the modern day is probably one of HUGEST pieces of lore in the franchise. I got bummed out that Mirage didn't develop this facet of Basim in the present. Ubisoft could've made a LEGENDARY trilogy starting with Basim reflecting on himself in his life as an Assassin, his ISU identity, and his modern-times experience. A second game could've been set in WWII mainland Japan which would look at how the Templars grew massively in power. A third game might've been based on the Great Purge and I have this crazy idea of a forwards compatible Animus that Basim uses to explore the memories of Sam Fisher so Basim can learn to fight in the Modern Era (the developers can just say Sam has ISU DNA because why not?). At the end, Basim grows to take on the role of a new Mentor for the Order of the Assassins, in spite of his ISU connections, and works to continue fight back against Abstergo. Though, the way that Ubisoft made Mirage and their choices for Shadows and Hexe make me think that Basim won't get that much focus. I hope that Ubisoft works on their stories for the newer games to be as awesome as the Ezio trilogy and Kenway Saga.

Players that judge game by time instead of content fail to get the full value of the game. If you're a hardcore Creeder there's parts that just aren't authentic to past games, but it's just a game. Reda's shop gives everything sold for only opals so you only need to purchase the season pass and dawn of Ragnarok. Use raven to find opals. Refine mastery skills to ONE upgrade style. Wolf if you love a bow or bear if you love to swing away. Assassination is the core of the game and regular skill points cover that. Enjoy
