Listening to this is easily the hippest part of my week. What's amazing is watching Bob do this live. This incredible sound filling up a concert hall or jazz club. Highly recommend people getting out to see him live if possible. It's incredible.

Very helpful - a valuable insight on how to develop a melodic idea, develop one’s internal metronome, and a sense of groove: and all in just 2 chords! Thanks

Such good stuff. I agree. And I love this little “shed” right here. I feel like I want to transcribe it!

Just a few days ago a drummer friend and I were speculating how much Bird, Trane, Newk, et al practiced with a metronome. It veered into a conversation about “time” vs “feel”. Some cats have good time but no feel. Listen to some of the old classic records. Drop the needle at the top of the tone and then go to the very end. Almost never the same tempo. (And obviously not click track accurate) But there is no denying the feel throughout.

Nice! I especially love the major to minor third passing tone stuff on the F.

Your channel was the first place I had learned to separate the metronome clicks further apart (years ago). Was in Urgent Care last night (nbd) and there was an intermittent beeping that I started counting as every other bar's "1" just to keep myself occupied lol.

First of all, I really like your music. You're one of my favorite current jazz artists. I've been trying to catch up on all your vlogs since day one.... I still have a lot to watch 😅 But your vlogs are fascinating for an apprentice tenor saxophonist like me. Anyway, I really like this video and the "song" with those two chords. I just wanted to let you know and thank you from the South of France.

You have very cool ways to practice and it's very insightful. Thanks!! Also, I'm so jealous about the sax retreat - maybe next year :)

I cried, I also took down some notes so thank you This stuff is so IMPORTANT. I confess it took me 2-3years of meditating to figure this stuff out🤨 Also helps a lot (if you stick at it) to practice only rhythm buy tapping the foot to keep the pulse on 1,2,3,4 at the same time your focus on hitting all different subdivisions triplets xxx xxx xxx xxx, eighth notes xx xx xx xx, sixteenth notes xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx Example: two bars of straight triplet notes, then mix those triplets up a little bit for two bars so on and so on. May seem extream but print these out make boxes with x'es to no only hear but also visualize these rhythms can be a huge benefit if you have the -patience- or rather understanding. Its fun, basic, and soon becomes obvious this is the way. Just requires a little bit of quality ATTENTION 😃 p.s if you start using a bongo drum, take my word for it and invest in some wrist supports 🤣😁😁😁😍😍😘

Great work man! At 4.46 you played a great lick on altissimo. It seems you did not use palm keys as usual but front keys instead. Am I righi? Could you explain that technique in a short video? Thanks
@alexbuffa28887 ай бұрын
Front F key. It opens the palm key F from the top left finger instead of using the palm. Try using the front F key for High E, F, and F sharp. The fingerings are online.
