7:04 or so..I worked on a golf course and have mowed over quarters and cut them twice and never noticed a change in the mowing. But I did hear it when it cut it!

Those effing rocks! I have them everywhere! In this one spot that I killed the grass to start fresh, after I dethatched is when I started noticing them

Dethatching can kick all of them up too that were previously embedded.

I really enjoyed you teaching us on how much more effort it is to reel mow compared to rotary. I feel like many people over complicate it and scare some people away from getting into reel mowing

I plan on doing this also. Just picked up a late 90s Jacobsen PGM22. What was your process? did you use rotary at all to help?
@JasonSeiberlich
@JasonSeiberlich 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Rotary down as low as it would go, then reel the rest of the way. I would recommend slowly bringing height down over a period of time rather than just sending it. However, just sending it did in fact work.

Great Video. Everything you touched on is absolutely true. This was my first year reel mowing and I haven’t changed a thing as far as my lawn care program goes that I have been doing for over 30 yrs. my lawn has never looked so good cutting at 1 inch. One thing I did notice is I didn’t have too much of a disease problem this year and I attribute that to the grass not staying as wet as it used to during the hotter months because of the shorter cut. All my neighbors want to know what I’m doing to have such a nice lawn. All I did was start using a reel mower. It’s amazing what that cut does for a lawn.

That's awesome. Nicely maintained turf cut short hits way different. Thanks for the additional insight.

Awesome. Obviously take every best practice step you can, but in my experience it's simply not that much harder than rotary mowing.

I never had a self propelled mower until my reel mower. Plus the wider reel cut. Reel mowing for me is much faster, easier and looks better.

Interesting. I have a 48 inch commercial rotary, so that's definitely better. But the reel mowed sections look way cooler. Will definitely agree with that.

Great points about reeling. This is my 1st year using a reel and it's not near as bad as people have made it out to be.

That's awesome. I love trying to communicate to people that nothing in lawn care is as difficult as it's made out to be. Do every best practice that you can but don't feel like you can't do this unless you can do every single best practice.

It changes the game and the powered reels change the game again. Honestly pick 1000 square feet somewhere, grab one of the 5 blade manuals on marketplace for $20 and give it a shot.

I fins it funny how people will say you cant reel mow a yard that is not level and well manicured. Like, how did they mow back in the day...like when my grandfather was mowing grass as a kid? They used a reel mower and it worked out just fine.

I do like the added benefit it’s safer to mow if it has rained , just because of that cleaner cut. I’m with you on checking the HOC …maybe twice a season

that's the way!🙂👍🌱explained great! it would be important to follow these steps! many people throw so much unnecessary stuff on the lawn, terrible. the right grass, the right mower and the right attitude is a good start✌ have a nice day jason.

Great video Jason. The only complaint I have about reel mowing is the worm castings flattening out during certain times of the year. Other than that, everyone should give it a go.
@JasonSeiberlich
@JasonSeiberlich 3 жыл бұрын
Yea that's brutal. Isn't as big of an issue mowing a touch taller but yea still brutal to see little dead spots all over.
@floriankimmel2474

I'm really thinking about mowing everything deep. When the worm casts are dry and sandy, they can be brushed away before mowing with a short cut🙌

Jason, just planted bent grass, got a few uneven spots. Can I roll the bent grass or should I just add some sand and soil! Thanks

I would recommend top dressing with sand over rolling. Rolling can help with speed but doesn't do much to smooth out uneven ground

How’s your experience with the Jacobson been?
@JasonSeiberlich
@JasonSeiberlich 2 жыл бұрын
I had to get a previous repair fixed because they put something back together wrong and replaced the carb. Otherwise I really like it. Lighter than the old toro that I have, which is nice.

Thanks for the response, I’ve been debating a Jacobsen 22 inch with a Honda engine for the fact it’s local and all other greens mowers available are in other states. Just kind of wanted to see if it’d end up being a bad egg or anything.

@@malarkeywithmatt2396 yea man. I'd go for it. They're all quite expensive to maintain, but as long as you're prepared for that should be all good.
