I don't identify with my current job, but if I wait until age 55 to stop working there I gain full pension benefits. Call it retirement or resignation, I will call it moving on with benefits to another job that I really want. The waiting is the hardest part.

First off, kudos to you for recognizing what truly matters to you! It's never easy to stay in a job that doesn't resonate with you. But, your patience and foresight are commendable. You're not just waiting, you're strategically positioning yourself for a better future. Think of this as a marathon, not a sprint. You're pacing yourself towards a finish line where a well-deserved pension awaits. And let's not forget the grand prize - a job that you truly love! In the meantime, try to find small joys and learning experiences in your present job. They can be great stepping stones to your next adventure.

When I told people I was going to retire, the first question people asked me was what part time job I was going to get. LOL, do they not understand the term retirement. I put in enough hours over the last 48 years for two lifetimes. 60 to 70 hour a week for 48 years. I'm done.

Haha, it sounds like you've definitely earned your retirement! 🎉 After working those kinds of hours for so many years, it's completely understandable that you're ready to enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Retirement is all about enjoying the freedom to do what makes you happy, whether that's traveling, picking up a hobby, or simply taking it easy. Cheers to this exciting new chapter! 🥳

You retire from a job you like. You resign from a job when you are fed up and just want to say “Take this job” It’s all about state of mind.

Hello Cindy.my situation is somewhat more complex. I work for a local health department. The politics of getting promoted is toxic . Consequently, since I’m older now, it’s been much harder promoting into another role and the commute in Los Angeles would be hard on me physically so I’ve stayed. My dilemma is wait 6 more months or retire at end if 2024 rather than get $720/year more in pension and retire at end of March 2025. I asked chat Gpt and it would mean forfeiting $14,000 over my lifetime. It’s not that much longer to wait I guess but in some ways I feel humiliated not getting a promotion in the program I a, currently so I feel Hu,ilated and want to leave. I am 66 next week, no children, unmarried. Financial advisors have said I will be okay if I decide now is right. I’m sick of letting the workplace dictate my life anymore but I want to maximize my final average pension .

Hi, it's Cyn 🤗 Since financial advisors have assured you that you'll be okay, it might be worth considering what will bring you the most peace and happiness. Sometimes, the emotional and mental relief of leaving a difficult situation can outweigh the financial benefits of staying. Trust your instincts and prioritize what feels right for you.

Retire as early as possible. Dont be that guy shuffling around barely doing anything. Get out of the way let the younger people move up. Your in their way of getting that promotion or raise.

Retirement is such a personal decision, and it's important to consider what's best for you and your circumstances. While making room for younger colleagues is a valid point, it's equally crucial to ensure you're ready and comfortable with the transition. Everyone's journey is different, and finding the right balance between personal fulfillment and professional responsibility is key. Ultimately, it's about making the choice that aligns with your goals and happiness. 😊
