Good advice Matt. I must admit that I looked at this and could not figure out what it offers over my HRM Pro - other than the battery change. It's a pity that Garmin don't offer a battery change kit - including new O ring for the HRM Pro - that would probably solve a lot of the water proofing issues.

I think this is kind of their solution. Slightly new product. I guess they could have just skipped the name change. 🤷♂️ I'm glad all of the updates are coming to your HRM Pro. I'll be very eager to see if they can move those features into a watch. Pressure is on because Apple is now doing a lot of these metrics on their Apple Watches. Hope you are well buddy!

The B-roll is SOOOO GOOOD. That is a smooth battery change system. Well done Garmin. Running power.... what does it look like, comparing an elite athlete versus a amateur? Is it super obvious? As in, if Evan and I went for a run at the same speed, would we have similar power? Or can it track efficiency, like a bike power meter? $130 for a heart rate monitor!?!?!?!? Daaaaayummm. Ground contact time. I reckon my data would amaze data people....might be 100%.
@mlegrand2 жыл бұрын
If you were to stay with Evan, I'm guessing your power would be somewhat similar. I don't think these algorithms are super smart about pulling out the amount of actual force you're applying through each stride. It's more about the amount of power that it takes to go up hill etc. I tend to stay on the ground a fair amount also. 😂

While offline from your phone and watch (and without starting the activity on your watch first), can you connect the strap to your Peloton bike, then upload the activity to Garmin Connect afterwards? And if so, will it upload as a spinning activity with all the details or will it just be an activity with heart rate data etc?
@mlegrand Жыл бұрын
I don't have a Peloton bike to test this with but I'm guessing Peloton bikes can take an external HRM (you wouldn't need a HRM as fancy as this one) but then you'd want some sort of export from Peloton to Garmin Connect. Looks like there is a mobile app called RunGap to do that.

Where I appreciate the fact that Garmin is adding som much metric gathering technology to their HR straps, I also feel like they're just driving me away from them. I personally don't delve so deeply into the metrics associated with my running. A lot of what this strap records is, essentially, useless to me. As such, knowing that there are so many decent straps that give accurate HR data at much lower price points really deters me from getting a Garmin HR strap. Well done, and kudos on yet another honest review!

There was mention of the possibility of starting an activity on your watch but then only use the chest strap (e.g. for martial arts). Does this only work with a watch that is connected to the chest strap, or can the app figure it out? I have a Vivomove Sport, which is incompatible with a chest strap, but the HRM can be connected straight to the app too. Or does the data have to go via the watch? (It is somewhat frustrating that an activity can’t be started directly in the app.)

I haven’t seen the HRM Pro work without starting it on a watch. I’m wondering if the Polar H10 might also be worth exploring at a slightly better price point. I think you can start an activity from a smart phone and store recorded HR data. You should double check but it might be worth considering.

@mlegrand8 ай бұрын
If you're just using this for running or biking, I'd say this HRM Pro Plus is overkill. That's just my humble opinion. But the running dynamics should be more accurate with this on. Heart rate should also be a bit more accurate if it's worn correctly. There's benefits to those who want to track heart rate while swimming or sync heart rate to their watches later. The example often used is fighting activities or sparring where you don't want to have a watch on but still want to track heart rate. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

Hello! I really appreciate your videos, they've been very useful to decide on my watch! I just got a FR955 based on multiple recommendations for Garmin and reviews and comparisons of that watch, and since I basically *require* a chest strap (since I do Crossfit and often can't wear the watch during workouts), I've been looking at both the Polar H10 and the Garmin Pro Plus. I was trying to give the H10 the benefit of the doubt (because of it's price and replaceable parts) but it seems like the Garmin Pro Plus is better since it can store the workouts when not in range of the watch and sync seamlessly on Garmin app without needing to use Polar apps or losing any data. Am I missing anything or any reason not to get the Garmin Pro Strap? Can you give me your advice please? Thanks again!
