On point bud..... regarding day 1 CPT, people have pulled it off. It would be helpful only if the current company you are in would agree to that and also you need to do being courses in an university and end up paying a lot of money for tuition. At the end of the day, you get 2 more shots for H1-B, but as you said that is going to be difficult since companies especially in the mechanical field would not prefer to sponsor until the situation gets better!!! Anyways glad that you are putting your time in giving incoming students a reality check :)
