I'm in the top 10 in every metric (except average plane shot down...) for this ship on the EU server, and have the highest damage replay on WoWs Replays, and I can 100% vouch for this ship: it's super fun and very good, without being broken. It is indeed "just a torp boat", and because you need to be able to use the F3s to be effective (otherwise you'd be almost straight inferior to Yuugumo), it has a skill floor a bit higher than most. But once you have reached that skill floor, it shines so well. It is indeed so comfortable, and the F3s are very satisfying to land. Do not sleep on the guns! The DPM is low, but they hit super hard! Use your advantages, mostly your concealment (veeeery slightly better than Jäger). Outspot your opponent, land a salvo or two, go back to stealth before he can shoot you back (with island cover or smoke). I have won quite a few duels against hybrid DDs and gunboats this way. (The exact same as with most Japanese torpedo DD...) I had good success in ranked this season, too. EDIT: After the usual PM, LS, SE and CE, I run (in no order) Grease the Gears, Swift Fish, Fill the Tubes, Superintendent and extra-heavy ammo. I hate subs with a passion, which is why I pick extra-heavy ammo (as it boosts the already strong Japanese depth charges). As for superintendent, I often find myself runing out of consumables, sometimes even with the skill equipped. It is indeed a sub-par build, but I really hate submarines, and I don't feel like managing the number of consumables I have in stock. Thinking about all the things that can screw over a torpedo DD is already enough for me.

I love the jp torp boats, and will definitely get this one. What is your opinion on Radio Location and Swift in Silence? I've never liked the reload penalty of SiS, so never tried it outside of PTS, but I have used Radio for a long time, even though Swift Fish is tempting

@@fideljok I have never used these two. For radio location, after a long while (more than 10k battles), I can estimate the rough position of most undetected ship on a flank. It's far less reliable, as I get outplayed regularly, but it's free and the opponent doesn't know I know where he is. Also, I don't like the indicator on my screen, I find it distracting, but that's just me. Mostly that, in fact XD. For SiS, I admit I never tried it only because I didn't want to risk retraining a commander only to realize it's worse, and having to waste more ressources to re-retrain it. I should probably test it on PTS! But I can see that 8% come very in handy to get out of a tight situation while still in stealth. The 5% slower reload speed doesn't matter much when you use your guns like I described. In short, they both seem very good picks, but I don't have the experience to answer you with certainty and accuracy.

Really enjoy the Minegumo, for anyone that enjoys torp boats this is a fantastically comfortable ship. Edit: Well worth mentioning you absolutely must make use of the free switch between torps, (4 sec delay if fully loaded) and the amazing reload which can get down to around 60 to 70 seconds

I consider to get it , I have 21k steel , so I could pawn Ragnar , and buy out to get her ... oh tho that is steel ship and I have allready pawned F.Sherman (Karl) & Salem (Brandenburg) , buy out Salem , and I miss 128k to buy back Sherman , and with steel ship + Franch bustard for RP + Wisconsin that I will buy out when last stage of gold ranked = anniversary I should have 90 T10 90 SC and from those I won last year 3 ships , and I have Benham + Jäger and Hayate so I have mix feeling about that ship , i would like to have in my collection , but I wont play it as Benhm & Jäger are better options :/

I would highly recommend the RPF/Radio Location skill in the +fourth line for this and all other IJN torp boats. It makes it really easy to have full control over any possible engagement with enemy gun boat DDs. For me its a must.

Thanks for this PQ! I traded in a Neustrashimi that I hated playing and had not played in months. I laughed out loud playing Minegumo having so much fun. I play her like Jager at start of the game and later switch to the short range torps. I took out a half health Wisconsin in Random on my last battle, such fun!

yeah, even though i ranted about the wows scam with the ships last video, i eventually traded my marceau for the minegumo and your right: minegumo is hilariously good. the 6.5 km torps are the bread and butter. i didn't have much luck with the 15km torps (1-2 occasionally torp hits) but the 6.5km torps are insane XD so many dev strikes. either while not being spotted or by yoloing unfortunate behemoths, sitting still in the water. but don't sleep on the guns! my first kill was a shot down yamagiri while he was shooting someone else, so use the guns if an opportunity arises!

Most important point for me: only 5.4 KM detection range (best in game). Minegumo is an absolute insane good spotter. In lategame I often focus on spotting to make the team win. You can get easily to 150-200k spotting as a pretty bad player like me. I need to use the short range torps more I guess, rarely use them at all.

When I get a double strike in my gearing I go down to 5.3km conceal. Is pretty cool when it happens. Would be like 5km if I had legendary but I don't have that yet and not sure I want to lose reload anyways

The ship is in the Asashio Class so the Minegumo is her sister. In game they have the same surface detection and seem to have been in game torpedo test beds. The Asashio tested the deep water torpedoes and the Minegumo is testing the speed vs range switch. (the Yamagiri was first at switching but the mechanic was very bad.) Thanks for the review. I had seen your first impressions video which informed my choice. Hopefully the speed/range swapping will find it's way on other WG torpedo armed ships as it is historical. (now if WG will also add the torpedo heading change after launch the Rodney has to the DDs that historically had that as well.) (Yes I dream and really know better by now) I traded my Carnot for the Minegumo. I did not care for the Carnot and as a IJN DD main I have been waiting for a higher tier (Good) Premium trainer. The Yuduchi manages to be quite lackluster for me. I have the Harekaze as well but it works better with an IFHE captain with the 100mm guns. And the Minegumo will be less challenging to play for fun than the Asashio. My IJN DDs almost always get the extra cost (coal) speed boost. Does the extra 5% speed on the torpedoes really make much difference? It seems the main defense for IJN torp boats is, don't get shot at. The other thing about the trade in, you do not have pay to demount the modules on the trade in ship, WG automatically does that when you trad it in.

It's like in chess after the first 10-15 moves you have a game state that is 1 of 1, never played before. The mid-late game will always be much more fascinating than your team or theirs blundering their ships and hanging the match in 5 minutes.

I only recently started playing DD's seriously (I'm almost a casual player and not a good one. And a BB main). I remember having terrible time when I played at lower tiers (and I also ever bought 2 premiums, because they were Polish - but I can't play them well). Thankfully SeaRaptor made a tutorial (you don't want to mess the commander - I mainly used it for that as well as some general advice on playstyle) on Japanese Torpedo Destroyers. I always had a lot of problems with Torpedo DD's when I play my BB's, so I thought I learn the enemy. Tier 5 was a bit fun, but with my abilities..... mostly co-op honestly. It's also first/last Tier when I either automatically go for survivability expert or don't - depending on the ship. But I struggled and struggled and bought Tier 6 as soon as possible. And after couple lousy matches (I hate being the reason my team dies), I spent my entire Free XP to upgrade commander to level 10. And with concealment expert suddenly the game went from "basically unplayable" to almost 60% Win Rate. Of course the rest of the team mattered more than my own efforts, but being able to go so close to ship, torp it and escape undetected was such a big change. It's not that with some destroyers it isn't possible without Concealment Expert, but when you have margin of error of 0.1-0.3km it is really easy to screw up. And again - I'm not a good player and I was trying to seriously play DD's for the first time. It's sad that co-op gives so little XP and has such oddly working bots, because it sadly fails as both educational mode and a recreational mode, where you don't bring down your team with your newbie mistakes. Maybe I misremember, but when I started playing in April of 2020 co-op was at least more rewarding. Plus on good days you could get a lot of players and only few bots, which usually meant that you could do some damage, but also train against human players. Oh - and funny story. Last night I was playing with my Amagi (my highest tier ship) in Random Battle. And I waited in queue for a long time. When game finally loaded, it was 3v3 (all humans). I saw some small matches, but having 3 ships on each team was a new record low. 1 sub on each team was against cap A, acompanied by a BB. And then other BB (me and my counterpart) against cap B. If I didn't know for certain that the match would end before time, I probably would have sprinted towards C cap to get any cap. But fight was short, sweet, actually kind of good (nothing stellar, but not a lot of embarrassing mistakes) and we all had a good laugh. I promised I wouldn't upload any WoWS replays on my channel anymore, before my actual PC is working, but maybe I will train editing commentary on it and publish it. Surreal situation.

Great game. I think the buy back is a great deal if you have a lot of coal. I lucked out and got the Minegumo out of a single crate during the original event, though I don't think I'm played a single game in it. I did pick up Karl and Dalian by trading in my Sherman, twice, then bought my Sherman back. So 2 T9 premiums for like 10 bucks, seem like a good deal.

I have it and I am rather unsure. 1st, the short range torps are #4 and the long range are #3. This seems backwards, and I have to keep it in mind at all times. Asashio guns are surprisingly hard hitting and late game against damaged DDs are pretty effective. Minegumo guns are supposed to be exactly identical except 1 sec faster reload...... and yet they do not seem as good. I have heard this from others, as well. The long range torps, with all the helps, are still just so-so. I love a good torp boat, and I only like this one.

I tried running her in Ranked for a change of pace with ships. I found her to just be OK, there are a lot of better choices even in the tech tree (British DD"s for instance) but she will perform if you are careful. Fast reload is nice but she doesn't have many guns. Long range torps are nice too, but slow reload. Super heal and smoke can be deadly in the right fights in ranked though, but you won't carry alone. If you are new and this is your only premium DD to run ranked she isn't the worst choice to make money and try to win some rounds, but you will be out performed by a Haida or T-61, or even the British tech tree ships.

Very lame. Stord 43 is a series of compromises that ultimately culminate in a mediocre destroyer to be honest. Everybody talks about the smoke and superheal: The superheals are nice, but you have THE worst base HP of any T6 DD. And Stord 43 is Tier 7. Even if you pop both heals at max potential, you wouldn't be able to touch the base HP of some other T7 DDs. The smoke is giga garbage. Its worse than the German smoke which is already the worst smoke in the game by a mile. It lasts for 61s and has 2 charges base. Maass, the equivalent German T7, has 3 smokes lasting 71s each. Your smokes will run out even before you've warmed your barrels. Its not a farming smoke, its a knifefighting smoke, like British short smokes but with none of the advantages.

​@@ReDiR20 For ranked I disagree and that is my only experience with Stord 43, but I could see it being better in random battles due to more flexibility and ability to farm compared to Haida, and most German DD's. Haida in ranked has a much better conceal, hydro, and crawling smoke that last a long time. She will rush and ruin a Stord 43 and most other DD's in her tier in ranked. She is a pain to play in other modes or against battleships and cruisers late game in ranked though due to low fire chance and low number of torps though. Stord 43 is better then tech tree German DD's, but the German premium T-61 is overpowered to the point where I use it to fight DD's up to two tiers higher easily.

it is quite possible to use your guns, but you have to know when and when not to. Since you usually have a concealment advantage, you can usually decide whether to fight or not. don't take a fair fight against a high HP gunboat, spot that guy in the hope that allies will take him down only shoot if you can destroy the enemy ship with one or two volleys and can disappear again

Eight torps without reload booster just seems too little. For this kind of playstyle the AL Yukikaze is just better because it get's proper F3's and it's T8 with a more favorable matchup spread.

Not sure what type of gameplay you enjoy. It's a decent smoke farmer but that's about all it does. It's also not that different from the tech tree pan asian cruisers minus the lack of deep water torpedoes.

No, absolutely not. The guns aren't good (mediocre DPM and 22mm HE pen at T9), survivability is terrible (almost British cruiser bad, but it only gets a standard heal), it has smoke but no spotting (no radar, no hydro, not even a plane). It has decent torps and maneuverability, good concealment for a cruiser (8.9km). It can do ok fighting DDs if they are spotted by somebody else (although even in a stright gun battle, some high-tier gunboats might actually win) and farming from behind an island or smoke - as long as somebody else spots for you. It's not very fun, high risk low reward (enemy radar cruisers annihilate it), has little battle impact and no carry ability.

I traded for Minegumo and love it. I traded a coal ship I don't play much, since I can always buy it back later. Being able to change torp types in game is super flexible. The 6.5 km torps are a bit challenging to use, but hit like a truck. Takes ballz and skillz. The low detect and smoke are very handy. I have used the guns when it's safe. They're lower DPM than a Shima, but have some alpha. And you're right, positioning is everything, same as most other ships. I took swift in silence instead of survivability and grease the gears. I use the same commander on Asashio.

Unfortunately, tonnes of videos on KZbin about ships that are worth owning, but not a single video about the ships that are not good and could be given away for it. For example, what about the Anchorage tier 8, it could be used to get a tier 9. It is unique, but in my understanding this ship isn't that good.

I wouldn't personally. There is not much this thing does that the yugumo cannot already do. I was disappointed that the Russian tier 9 secondary battleship was not available despite it having the gamble release event almost 4 months before minigumo's event.

Hayate is arguably a better ship tier for tier anyways no? TRB meant ur already a superior torpedo boat over minegumo other than concealment, which is still usable anyways. Combine with the fact that you have 10th highest HE dpm meant that while you're not going to outgun people, you can easily defend urself better than any other IJN DD. Also tier 9 MM is worse nowadays thx to supership, but since u can meet tier 7 I guess its still somewhat arguable. I see no reason why Hayate is not a superior ship if you want a premium IJN DD.

Hayate not premium ship. It's special ship (Tier 10 premium is special ship). special ship don't have money boost like premium ship. Mostly buy these ship cuz those big money number not the best performance.

@@mayshiratoshi6390 While true, it is also pointless to choose a ship that would perform worse or have less opportunities due to their respective lower versatilities, as that would impact the performance which is a greater factor in credit earnings. As tier 10 special ship with lower repair cost, meant it also can earn a sizable amount of credits even on a loss assuming one can perform well. Not to mention there are a number of coal premiums that superior in terms of performance than Minegumo, like Kearsarge, Iwami, etc.

​@@leemarcus6123 Trust me most of the time 1500 exp T9 premium ship paid you much more than 2000 exp special ship. And on average people 1500-2000 exp considered hard for them (at 45-50% winrate cuz that average people.) Even my Missouri on easy 1500-2000exp game get me more money than hard carry Wisconsin 2000-2500 exp game. That the point of buying tier 9 premium while price of T9 and T10 is nearly the same.
