Ground is always wet where I'm at. Concrete pilings with strong ties and 3 ply 2×6's on top. My 30×40 pole barn has a post completely rotted less than 20 years old. I bought the property like that a couple years ago. Fortunately it's on the non bearing end.

Water/Wetness is tough to manage. Sounds like you know what you are doing.

How long is the treated part of that post ? I'm looking at making my own 20foot posts trying to keep cost down ,I only need 4feet of treated in the ground here

Minimum of 8' of lower portion of column utilizes .60 CCA pressure treated lumber.

Could I laminate 3 pressure treated 2x6 and save myself the cost of the finger jointed 3 ply?
@Polebarnshops2 жыл бұрын
Sure, don’t use above grade 2x6 and something like .60.

@Ben David It's gonna cost me less than $100 to make 20' posts

how long can these sit without being installed? will they twist in any way if lying on the ground?
@Polebarnshops Жыл бұрын
Take on moisture. They can twist. Not too long on the ground.
