good topic man. But when it comes to payment , any law preventing artists to cash checks under their artist name or has to be your real name? thanx for the great info

If you have a checking account (and business entity) set up under your artist name, you can have people write checks to that name. Otherwise, all checks will need to be made out to your government name.

"Should" is the tricky word there. Would it be nice? Yes? Do they have to do it? No.

What happens if you sign an exclusive deal with a library and your track gets selected and people want to find out who it is and where they could buy it? You just said you can’t sell it on iTunes because you can get into legal trouble. So basically that awesome track will not be available for public sale. Then how are people going to blast it on social media? They won’t have access to it.

Usually if a track blows up, the library will immediately make it available for purchase (they would want a piece of those consumer sales too!). But even if not, you can still capitalize on your placement by sharing other original music of yours and making videos talking about how you created the placed track, etc. Just gotta get creative:-)

I don't distribute my music to the public - I only make my tracks available to music libraries and supervisors. I'm a 100% licensing guy.

Damn this is an extremely important point that no one has raised and you just blew over. If I am an artist I definitely would not want to sign an exclusive deal
