I found this video puzzling because Tim didn't actually show viewers round the town itself??? For anyone wanting to know: 1. It's a fairly LARGE town - plenty of shops, cafes, charity shops, snug pubs and eateries and some artisan shops. It also has a Greggs, Costa and Waterstones 2. If you want to stay centrally I can recommend Harry's Hotel & Restaurant - a 5-minute walk in a straight line from the railway station 3. There are loads of charity shops and also a huge Oxfam shop that specialises in books 4. There's a supermarket right opposite Harry's in the main thoroughfare so if you're self-catering that's the place to stock up 5. The fish & chip shop OPPOSITE the prom cooks TO ORDER so prepare yourself for a 15-minute wait (at least). The man got quite shirty with me when I asked why it was taking so long (there are no signs in the shop to inform customers that food is cooked to order) 6. Public toilets can be found by the Castle and also as you walk towards the funicular railway (it costs 30p so have some change to hand). I usually wait until I need to 'go' then just pop into a cafe for a cuppa and make use of their toilets 7. If you don't want to pay the £6.50 for the funicular railway you can walk to the top - it's not too challenging and has great views 8. The people of Aberystwyth are very welcoming - always willing to help you 9. As you walk towards the funicular railway there's a SENSATIONAL ice cream/gift shop that sells about 30 different flavours 10. Aberystwyth is very clean - the town really seems to care, and it shows 11. As you alight the train there's a large Antique Centre - worth a look as they have a lot of second-hand books, kitchen items (cheap) 12. Right next to the Antique Centre is a Wetherspoons (the traditional breakfast is sensational). Loos are upstairs and IMMACULATE 13. For singletons/solo travellers avoid school holidays - the town is crammed with families/loud kiddies particularly in good weather. I love going out of season AND when the children are in school: the sea's the best cure for a cluttered and overwhelmed mind 14. I urge you to make the effort and get up early (before breakfast) - nothing as beautiful as a peaceful walk along the prom at 5.00 am Hope that's helpful.

Friends and I ( we are from The States) toured July 2023 and spent a lovely couple of days here. Stayed at the Glengower ( one of those coastal hotels you mentioned). It was wonderful! Walked the castle, the pier and did some shopping near the Uni. And of course we did the railway - watched a storm roll in from the top. Would go back in a heartbeat! ❤

Aw yay, you did Aber while you were here too! Just like the Barmouth tour, this is another lovely snapshot of the town. I can’t lie after living in Aberystwyth my whole life I’ve got a different opinion on what its like day to day. When I was younger Aber was quite a tidy cute little welsh town but as I’ve grown up it’s slowly turning sour year by year. Of course I’ll always refer to Aber as home but it hasn’t got the same character as it used to. But I can see why it’s a good tourist destination

The ‘tree trunks’ on the Pier beer garden are now complete and have branches that light up in the evening and can be seen down other end of coast at North beach, looks much better than I am describing. Stayed at Queensbridge Hotel, cheap-ish and cheerful, no allocated parking, but the view from rooms with bay window on front of building make it look like you are waking up at sea. Only Phase 1 of Colwyn Bay's pier has happened so far. They have a Victoria Pier Trust shop that's moved to the main Street. Phase 2 and 3 are on their way. I always thought it should be a pleasure pier rather than what the original vision seemed to be but you can't complain - what they're doing is groundbreaking stuff, beating Felixstowe and Skegness to it. It's still officially the same Victoria Pier as well - some of the original structure was used and other saved features retained and included.

Now, I've been a regular visitor to Aberystwyth myself and from _my_ experience alone it is a _great_ town! For example, there is a charity shop situated on what I think used to be a Platform 2, and there plenty of charity shops dotted around the town as well, like I know this Oxfam charity shop where I picked up this book of The Monkees one time and the first season of Star Trek another. And don't even get me started on the fish and chips - they taste amazing! In fact, the fish and chips shop on the pier is one of the best (if not, _the_ best) fish and chip shops I've had the pleasure to dine at so long as you ignore the fact that it tends to fill your tummy very quick, but still it's the best fish and chips shop there and still can't be beat. You can even get bus services to Aberaeron, Llanarth and Cardigan there and travel to whatever holiday home you've booked near Aberystwyth. It's one of the best towns I've been to in Wales and still cannot be beat!

I live in the USA and a few days after I returned, I was watching a show on our PBS network that was new to me, 'Hinterland'. I was pleasantly surprised I recognized the base setting of the series was set in the town I was in only a few days before. I studied in Aberystwyth in the mid-90s. You actually can't see the cliff railway from the harbour; what you can see is the South Beach (which is part of the old town) and the castle. The main seafront (the North Beach) is round the corner from there. Incidentally, the marina in the harbour was built in the early 90s and was bitterly opposed by many in the town, especially Welsh nationalists. They said it would push up house prices and make this part of Wales another playground for the English rich (I remember that phrase from the student magazine, the Courier, which I got hold of an old copy of as it was well before the time I was there).

A day in Aberystwyth is enjoyable. I was last there before the pandemic, but there was nice scenery, people were friendly, and there were interesting little shops to go in. Too, the National Library and the one in the university were great places for research on the subject of your choice. I'm looking forward to going back.

There used to be a lovely little shop called Mona Lisa on the High Street, owned by a wonderful couple, Bet and Ceredig, who became family friends of ours. I often wonder how they're doing lol. I've not seen them in years since moving away

Great video, I'm visiting North Wales in August doing the Snowdonia 360 so I'm finding your latest videos most helpful.. In answer to your Aberystwyth question regarding the chained baskets at the top of the clifftop railway, they are used for frizby golf which is more popular in the USA....

Stopped at the Pier hotel 40 yards from the pier. V clean good size rooms recently decorated with helpful staff. Did have a bar but it was closed when we stayed a few months back. Excellent value for money.

Well done for the trying to pronounce Welsh. Aber-wrist-with. You said dim correct. Parcio is park-e-o. The I is pronounced like e. it’s a long time since I’ve been there. It’s a nice place.

Watching this makes you realise the public investment in the seafront at Rhyl is not just a waste of money but it has made things worse. It would have been much better to clear it all away and landscape it nicely. Aber, by not chasing the buckets and spades brigade, has retained its charm

Very amusing seeing the houses down south beach described as posh and new, they've been there going on 20 years and are mostly social housing now. The posh side of aber is constitution hill, those houses are filled with upper middle class to straight up insane wealth. Did you manage to go into the observatory at the top of consti? There is an interactive live birds eye view of aberystwyth. One of my favourite things to do in town as a teenager, that and go to the museum.

Where the pastel coloured apartments are on the front, once stood one of the best amusement arcades ever. That was a long time ago and I suppose it had it's day. I have to say, those apartments do look good and I think overall they have done a great job with the front. 👍
