There’s a restaurant I want to go to so was thinking of booking a hotel for a night . Is it just depressing there though ? Especially as we want to go in January.

Southend has good and bad. Someone said it depends on the time or day u go rhere. Used to go there in 1970s it was lovely but now like alot of sea side [laces declined .
