YES! You should watch Shaman King. It’s fantastic. The original anime is great and was actually a really good dub by 4Kids and that English theme was a banger. The reboot does rush through the first arc but like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, what it’s covering has already been covered so they’re getting through it as quick as possible to get to where the original adaptation deviated. Although I do wish Netflix would drop episodes weekly even if it’s just the subbed version because it’s driving people like me who want to watch it legally if possible, to watch illegally because there’s no other way to and we (me) don’t want to wait until Netflix drops episodes. Fifteen months later and I still think watching this remake is worth watching. It has its problems, most specifically the pacing and the animation, but the character designs look amazing, the voice casts are pretty much the exact same as the original anime, the cast of characters is awesome, the story is pretty good as well although it falls off the rails towards the end and it has Yoh, one of the most incredibly well written Shonen protagonists ever.

But this anime turned for me like one of those anime that you just watch to see how are they going to ruin this moment or that one. Ep 25 is a whole ep dedicated to the characters hanging out saying their final goodbye to the place they live because they are going to dobi village for the second part of the tournament. In the 2021 anime we skip all of that character development and we just jump cut all of that. I watched the first episode of the new series and then compared it to the first episode of the old series, and the pacing for the new series is way too fast. They don't give enough time for the jokes to land properly, and the cram the events of the first two episodes of the old series into the first ep. of the new one, so everything feels super rushed. I recall FMA Brotherhood doing the same thing for its first dozen or so episodes, and while things evened out after that, I still didn't enjoy those episodes much. Just feels like the new Shaman King lacks a lot of the charm of the old series, so I'm not sure I'll continue.

I agree that if you are not familiar with the old show or read the manga, the pacing is too fast and doesn't allow you to really connect to the characters except on a superficial level: Yoh=hippie, Ren=jerk, Manta=spaz etc, but i still enjoy the netflix adaptation because i know the story, i read the manga and watched the old show, and i just want to see the fights 😆. This reboot is certainly not perfect, but i think i will find its audience very easy because the OG shaman king fanbase are ride or die, even tho they f*cked us with "Flower or Maize"

Just watched the first 13 episodes. Favorite episode is probably the second to last. They probably are doing like Brotherhood and not caring mich about the beginning because it was already covered, but *spoilers ahead* Amidamaru's story and the battles in the Tao estate should not have been rushed. I find that this adaption kills it's own drama through rushed pacing and poor lighting (everything is way too bright).
@RancorSnp3 жыл бұрын
*reply to spoilers* The battles in the Tao estate were some of the only in the first 13 episodes that were not rushed at all. It's basically a 1:1 adaptation for this mini arc. The old anime was dragging out events, which was fine, but it also would change a lot of things. This new adaptation aims to be as close to the source material as possible when only given 52 episodes to cover 300 chapters with. (First series covered 120 ish chapters in 64. Though like 25 of these were filler episodes, and the last couple were completely anime original and it also skipped like 10 chapters. So the old anime was more like 110 chapters in 34 episodes) Honestly the new anime is fine for what it is, and I do understand why Takei agreed for it to be rushed this way (He personally oversaw and accepted the anime script before allowing any of it to be animated). We live in uncertain times and he probably felt like keeping it on the shorter side is for the better. I do wish we could have gotten at least 100 episodes for the scenes to have the time to sink in and the music to actually play, but alas it's still an actual Shaman King adaptation that does not ruin the source material

But its way worse here. They're rushing towards the content that the original anime adaptation couldn't get to, and its really killing the whole show for me. I would just read the manga, or watch the original and switch back to this one once they get to the newly animated content. The 2001 adaptation has tons more personality and adds a lot of fun little things. Despite its rushed ending, I find a lot more enjoyment out of it than Netflix's version. 2001 is a bad story because the original manga was not used! the 2021 because the music and details of the story were connected. I'm so excited the the other spin-off and sequel specially the SK flowers, superstars, marcos and morreeeeee!

Not sure how you can even compare this to jujutsu no kaisen. The story is ok at best and the fights lack dept and power scaling.

Never watched the original and watching the current one out. Although it's hard to get into since it's very naive thinking, however also do not like that I know what to expect, and the main charcter is just predictable on how he levels up. Also how is this comparable to jujitsu k. I wouldn't even put them in the same boat.

No. It’s terrible. It’s too rushed. None of the characters have any real character. Pretty much all the dialogue is exposition. It’s just terrible

@thedigiknow3 жыл бұрын
Yeah some can be really hard to listen to when you’re used to the original English voices. I believe the new voice actors were hired because they sound more like the Japanese voice actors. In the Japanese version Yoh’s voice was always super high so that’s probably why 2021 English Yoh is the way he is

I don't like the new dubbing. Haven't watched all the episodes yet so I won't comment on anything else.

I do miss the original English Yoh voice and him being more chill but keep in mind the new English voice is actually a lot closer to what the Japanese voice actor sounds like so one could argue it’s a more faithful dub?
