Here in the UK I also ran a cat 6 from my router to the alarm panel (the device which is the brain of the system). This now allows me to control the alarm remotely without worrying that the wifi will drop out. One of the best decisions I made.

Great advice, thank you. I am definitely no expert but we are building a new house now, and we will be running Ethernet to every location where we may have an external camera (about 14 locations). We may end up not using all of these but it gives us the option. Should give us greater reliability, more camera options, and help to reduce the load on our WiFi network. And if I might be cheeky, your viewers could watch our build as it happens on Philippines 4.0. Feel free of course to edit out this shameless plug for our baby channel.

When you say 3000 sqft. We're building a house now and the ground level floor is about 1500ish. I'm not too worried about the upstairs since the ceilings are 12ft on the main level and 10 in the basement. Would I still be ok with wireless censors then for the main level?

Think you'll be fine. If basement has exterior doors, might add a 22/4 security wire for a wireless repeater down there somewhere. Same wire you would use for the keypad

@@SmartHomeBrothers Is security wire (especially 22/4) considered low voltage? If yes, can it be run alongside ethernet and COAX? Do you bring it into the low voltage Leviton box?

18/2 is better, also after 5 to 10 years wireless gets annoying AF however if it wasn't pre-wired and you can use a Vista not a lot of options 😊

What type wire is best for home security?

22/4 for sensors. Most new alarm panels need 18/2, especially the wireless systems. Run a cat5e or cat6 from demarc to control panel for phone line or network connection.
