As a drummer, that dudes out of his mind. That's what makes creatures (plus the songs) a great album! I wish someone would remix lick it up, with the creatures drum sound

This is a little bit difficult because I have both of these albums as my top 5 Kiss albums and I love the heavier side of Kiss give creatures of the night the edge followed by Lick It up revenge and hotter than hell end carnival of souls.

Ah hey! My favorite KISS podcast because you guys are funny and don't make it all about yourselves, all the time. You also don't use tactics for views. I agree the overall sound of "LIU" was better. I just see "LIU" as the next chapter after "Creatures", but for me it's almost dead even. "LIU" was more with the times and the title track definitely has stood the test of time. I still would pick "Creatures" however because of Eric's drums which I hold near and dear, they never recaptured that sound again. By the late 80's the thunderous Eric Carr sound was minimized to a drum machine on HITS, it seemed to be less and less important as albums went on. Thanks Tom & Zeus for a great and entertaining podcast.

Although I love the drum sound on creatures of the night. I also agree that lick it up is the better album. The songs on creatures of the night are great but they all sound much better live than on the record

LiU is the last fully great Kiss album, I also prefer it to CotN whose bombastic sound I never truly swooned over, it's not that LiU necessarily is much better sounding (it's the same producer) it just feels more (a)live and rawer than its sonically booming predecessor for all instruments concerned.

Lick it up is the best non makeup album but it is NOT better than Creatures of the Night!

Creatures all the way! I like exciter and the title track on lick it up, but overall the albums not my favorite. For me Creatures almost doesn't have a bad song on the album

"Creatures" gets my vote. // I thought that "Music From 'The Elder'"/"Killers"/"Creatures of the Night" should've been Trilogy 1. Trilogy 2 - would be "Creatures of the Day": "Lick It Up"/"Animalize"/"Asylum". // Trilogy 2 keeps the "Creatures of the Night"-stage - for the "Lick It Up"-tour; Paul's leopard-motif guitar & tiger-striped guitar ("Creatures") and zebra-"V" ("Lick It Up") - predict fur-patterns of "Animalize"; "Lick It Up" & "Animalize" share the "city-scape/waste-land"-motif - along with (voila) the 1985-"Creatures of the Night"; "Animalize"/"Creatures of the Night"-1985/"Asylum" - have in common Bruce Kulick; and "Asylum" ties-in the pre-Eric-Carr character-colors of 1973-1980 'KISS' (devised - on the 1978-'Solos'). Quintology 3 - has "Crazy Nights" re-turning to the "night"-theme (plus - "Rock & Roll Over"-/"Fractured Mirror"-references); "Smashes, Thrashes, & Hits" (Eric Carr - covering "Destroyer"'s "Beth"); "Hot in the Shade" - with Vinnie's Egyptian-theme (1982-"Creatures of the Night") & 1980 make-up ("Rise To It"); "Revenge"'s collaboration with Vinnie & "Carr-Jam" ("'Elder'"-demo; "Creatures"/"Lick It Up"-connections); "God Gave 'Rock & Roll' to You II" (like "Lick It Up"'s "On the 8th Day"); "Carnival of Souls"' "I Walk Alone" (similar - to "Music From 'The Elder'"''s "I"; and a fare-well - to the 1980s/1990s line-ups). Trilogy 4 - make-up albums (fare-wells - to the 1970s/2000s line-ups). One re-recorded song ("Detroit 'Rock'-City")...which opens with the geriatric twins (Gene & Paul) and their two scabs ("Meter Skips" (Singer) & "Face Stealey" (Thayer)) crashing 'KISS's legacy - as they close their "End of the Road"tour. // Cop says "Uh-huh...been drinkin' 'Boy Howdy', 'Bull-frog Beer', & 'Cold Gin'. / Book 'em - Danno!"

P.S.: some other comparisons... 1 - Gene's blood-spitting / Mick Mars' blood-spitting ("Live Wire"-video) 2 - 'KISS's candelabra / 'Mötley Crüe's candelabra 3 - 'KISS's "All Hell's Breakin' Loose" / 'Mötley Crüe's "Too Young to Fall In Love" (videos) 4 - Mick Mars' jaw make-up (1983) / Paul Stanley's jaw make-up (1976) 5 - Mick Mars' tiger-striped guitar / Paul's tiger-striped guitar 6 - Nikki Sixx's "War-lock"-basses (1983) / Paul's guitar (1984); Gene's bass (1991) 7 - Peter Criss's double-striped whiskers / Tommy Lee's face-stripes 8 - 'KISS's "Hide Your Heart" / 'Mötley Crüe's "Dr. Feel-good" (lyrics) 9 - 'KISS's "Carnival of Souls"' (demo/album-title) / 'Mötley Crüe's "Carnival of Sins" (tour) [Derivative much?]😳

The song "Lick It Up" reminds me of the lyric, "The dumbest buy the mostest, that's the name of the game" from the song "Mtv Get Off the Air" by the Dead Kennedys. I bought COTN the day it came out. I seen KISS twice on the COTN (10th Anniversary Tour). I knew how great COTN was the very first time I heard it and it pissed me off I couldn't get anyone else to listen to it. Couldn't get past the "KISS sucks" mantra and the damages done fro the Dynasty - The Elder era. The fact that no one cared about COTN and it had no impact is proof that Vinnie Vincent did not "save KISS". The same cast was on "Lick It Up", basically and the only difference was no make-up. No make-up saved KISS. The song "Lick It Up" is an awful song. I am with Ralph at Almost Human, I hate that song. It's the epitome of KISS through the eyes of most Prog-Rock fans. I hate the fact so many people jumped back on the KISS bandwagon while telling me how great that song is. Especially when I knew it was the COTN album they should have been swooning over. I like "Not For the Innocent", "Exciter", "Young and Wasted" and "A Million to One" on LIU. I like every song on COTN.

Creatures is as good as anything Kiss ever did (and I had Kiss pajamas, so don't f'ing talk to me about the importance of the original lineup). Having said that Lick It Up is almost as good as Creatures. And L/I/UP is undoubtedly Kiss' best non makeup album. The makeup blinds people to the fact that a lot of Kiss' 70's output is over-rated. And not having the makeup on blinds people to the fact that 80's Kiss is sorely under-rated. And please don't start the crap about Kiss being "original" in the 70s. Peter has admitted that they all collectively came up with the idea very early on of having 4 Alice Cooper's in 1 band. And the steps on each side of the drum riser stage prop from the 70s tours was ripped directly from the Welcome To My Nightmare Tour by Cooper. Kiss were ALWAYS following trends and other artists (Dynasty and disco). Lastly, say what you want about the guy, but Vinnie Vincent is just talented with a capital T. If you isolate all of the songs he co-wrote with Gene & Paul off of Creatures, LIUP, and Revenge you start to see just how great he was, and how great they were as a team. Bruce was what Kiss needed for stability by '84, but if they had been able to somehow make things work with Vinnie - Kiss would have been an even better band in the 80's than they were, no doubt about it.

Sorry but I can't stand fits like a glove. Creatures is by far the superior ROCK record. Luck it up was made to ride the hair band wave and try to remain mainstream relevant.

I jumped off the Kiss bandwagon when Creatures happened. The drums are just too big . The songs arent fantastic bar 3 songs . Its far too metallic. Metal Kiss wasnt great but it had its moments Animalize is where they kinda got it back together
