The Movie Musical Event Of The '80s ... Is Back!
Pour yourself a milkshake and experience the magic, music, and mirth of the all-time favorite camptastic classic: Can't Stop The Music! This (highly fictionalized) story depicting the creation of disco icons the Village People provides the framework for an outrageous musical extravaganza as only producer Allan Carr (Grease, Grease 2) could deliver.
An infamous flop upon its 1980 release, but cherished by fans of the singing sextet and cult cinema, Can't Stop The Music offers a truly unforgettable time capsule experience. Packed with macho men, glamorous gals, "they don't make 'em like this anymore" production numbers, and a once-in-a-lifetime cast, it's the sort of dizzy fun that aficionados of camp the world over award gold medals to. Watch it and see for yourself that it takes a Village ... to raise your spirits!

I wonder why Glenn Hughes wasn't in this clip? Glenn Hughes, the original biker was the sexiest man there ever was, it was so sad when I heard he passed away from lung cancer in 2001

He was such a wet noodle in this. And he was surprised he didn't get any offers after this. Was he really needed? They could have featured Alex in a solo. The others got to sing a little - and David had his own number.

now THIS movie _is_ a masterpiece. a masterpiece of weirdness, bafflement; a masterpiece of that fabled state that goes beyond cringe and comes right back around to being absolutely hilarious. it's like a movie made by rich aliens. it's like a musical version of _The Room_ . . . with a _way_ higher budget. I can't believe sound-minded businessmen and women paid for this. this movie was made, on purpose, to at least look, sound and feel like it does. and that is amazing. people with taste made this. has there ever been a calculation _this_ off? probably. but not many. a helpful way for people my age and younger who weren't around for this to look at this movie is to remember this: in 1980, _Once in a Lifetime_ by Talking Heads was released. Brian Scott became the new lead singer of AC/DC, and _Back in Black_ was released the same month this came out. New Order played their first gig in 1980. from the Village People singing a milk commercial in _Can't Stop the Music_ to Prince on his bike in _Purple Rain_ in just three years. blows my mind.

@@oscara.2636 It's pretty simple. Caitlyn Jenner has fully transitioned, so now the pronoun is 'she'.
@oscara.2636
@oscara.2636 3 жыл бұрын
@@friendlier OK, just so we're clear on this - the very important forum that is a Village People clip on KZbin - I used both pronouns not because of any misunderstanding that Bruce transitioned into Caitlyn and that I don't recognize her now as a woman but because at the time of the decision to turn down the role of Superman to star in legendarily dreadful musical "Can't Stop The Music", Caitlyn was then a man, so she would have gone by "he" at that point. I added he / she to accommodate the reader's viewpoint whether it was "Caitlyn, now a woman, turned down the role at that time" or "Bruce, then a man at the time of the decision, turned down the role".

Legend has it that Steve Gutenberg came to LA with $300 in his pocket. He tricked the studio guards into thinking he was Michael Eisner's (studio exec) son and set up shop in an abandoned office. He got roles by walking on to sets pretending like he owned the place or so the legend goes...

The awful phrasing and shoe-horning of lyrics, good Lord 0:40 "play some good mus-IC" 0:48 "ev-RY-one have some fun" 1:31 "friends with whom I can share" and, lest we forget the well-placed pause @ 1:44: "magic's when I come . . . together with my friends". @giuseppeianniello1998 4 жыл бұрын
RHGarciaApr85 There are interesting things about Can’t Stop The Music: 1. Before its release, there was an huge publicity campaign marketed as “The Movie Musical Event Of The 80s”. Even doing an 1 hour tv special starring huge names like Hugh Hefner and Cher, just to name a few. 2. The director Nancy Walker and leading actress Valerie Perrine didn’t like each other at all. To the point that the cinematographer had to step in to direct her scenes 3. During production, the lead singer of the Village People left the group and was replaced by Ray Simpson 4. At the time it was released in 1980, there was an anti-disco music movement going on. People at the time hated the genre, burning CDs, Radios banning from their stations, etc. 5. It has, as of March 25th 2020, a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes 6. It was one of the movies that partially inspired the award ceremony that celebrates awful cinema, the Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies. It “won” the very 1st award for Worst Picture and Screenplay and was also nominated for more but it didn’t fare better: • Worst Actor for Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn) - lost against Neil Diamond for The Jazz Singer • Worst Actress for Valerie Perrine - lost against Brooke Shields for The Blue Lagoon • Worst Supporting Actress for Marilyn Sokol - lost against Amy Irving for Honeysuckle Rose • Worst Director for Nancy Walker - lost against Robert Greenwald for Xanadu (the other movie musical that inspired the Razzies) • Worst Original Song for the titular track by Jacques Morali - lost against The Man With Bogart’s Face
