I hope that this is just the 1st in many more games like this to come. It seems that the time is right for retro to enter the stage again.

It probably should be pointed out that Yacht Club Games, the team behind Shovel Knight, is made up of several if not fully composed of WayForward folks, the ones that made Shantae, Contra 4, Double Dragon Neon, Ducktales Remastered, and so many others. If anyone knows how retro works, it'll be them.

Been doing some research about how Shovel Knight's audio emulates the 2A03 and the VRC6 sound chips found in the NES/Famicom and the initial release of the OST sounds like it's in mono. With stereo, I find that I can differentiate a lot of the subtle and intricate harmonies from the already catchy melodies and rhythm sounds much easier than the mono version, as well as pinpoint the different sounding duty cycles which the VRC6 soundfont features. It's really stimulating.
