The title says it all, Ed Piskor, Jim Rugg, and Tom Scioli got their grubby hands on some Jack Kirby artwork from his 1970s period at Marvel. No ink-line or artistic decision goes unnoticed once this classic page gets put under the microscope.

An original Jack Kirby inked by Mike Royer. Years ago I used to buy The Jack Kirby Collector. It had so many different aspects of Kirby's art. Jack's original pencils inked by many different artists.

Before I ever did characters I was doing "doodles" of the Kirby Crackle. That, Ditko's other-dimensional connected spheres and Dr. Fates ankh bolts were on countless napkins, notebooks and homework sheets.

Speaking of Kirby crackle and how its done, I seem to recall hearing/reading somewhere that it was done with a q-tip dipped in ink. I tried it and it kinda worked pretty good. Needs a little more experimentation from me but it made slick little circle-ish shapes. So anyway, just mentioning. Fyi your channel is quickly becoming a favorite.

Killer episode. I'd love to see more in this vein where you go in hard on a piece of original art.

Also, I didn't realize until just now, but Royer is gonna be at HeroesCon this year. That'd be a sweet ass interview opportunity.

Eternals was my first Kirby and my little-kid mind was blown...maybe forever! And it blows my mind now to think of his prolific page rate at this level. Truly the King

You guys never cease to amaze me. I enjoyed your in depth analysis of Jack Kirby's work. I loved his Atlas monster comics work that were reprinted in the '70's.

Awesome episode guys. I've scanned a number of original pages for Artists Edition's (Gene Colan, Bernie Wrightson, John Byrne, Russ Heath etc) and the art is astounding. It's so nice to see and hold in person, but they're almost always beat up. They even have glue on them, re-pasted lettering or zipatone layers. It's crazy. The Russ Heath Yellow Heat pages were some of the cleanest I can remember. Yellowed from age, but not destroyed. Also, the first pieces I got to scan was a huge pile of Bobby London's Dirty Duck pages. It was awesome.

I have some original Kirby photostats but nothing like an original piece like this. There is a reason he is the one and only King and you guys did a great job covering some of the reasons why.

Last year at Heroes Con the Kirby museum had these huge copies of Kirby's pencils from 2001. Just beautiful stuff. You want to have your own copies and just lay them around your office so you can live with them and pick up the awesomeness through osmosis.

Kirby's later work tends to be dismissed, but it always impressed me that after he got so many big concepts like New Gods cut out from under him, he was able to bounce back with new ideas; it's like he never ran out. After devising so many iconic antagonists at Marvel you'd think there was no new way to do them, but Darkseid seemed a huge upgrade from his earlier villains, in so many ways. And in the Celestials, Kirby found something even bigger and more terrifying than what had come before.

Have agree with the view that your favourite Kirby inker is the first one you saw - mine's Joe Sinnott (May he enjoy a long retirement) from a UK World Distribution Titans 1978 annual that reprinted Fantastic Four Annual #6. Close 2nd favourite goes to Mike Royer.

I heard a story that Kirby poached Mike Royer from Russ Manning when he moved out to California and wanted a local inker he could work with.

Haven't watched the whole video yet (I already know I will like it because my holy comics Quadrinity consists of Kirby, Ditko, Steranko and Starlin) but I figured that if you haven't heard this hip-hop flavored homage to Jack Kirby yet that I would drop it here for the Kayfabe Braintrust to enjoy. I actually got that issue of Eternals when it was still relatively new and it shaped my life. That was my introduction to Kirby and I stared at that thing for days. Lots of good memories. And yeah, Royer was the man. Thanks for showcasing the original art guys...made my day.
