Great video. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. We are just experimenting with some other show control software and controllers. At first glance it seems expensive, both the controllers and access to the software. It will be interesting to see what you guys come up with.

think it qualifies as a PLC's. In a science themed room I built, although it creeped some people out, we used birthdays provided in the waiver as a code for the lead scientist login later in the game. lock had to update each game and really surprised people with personal touch, "no way the code is my birthday"

I also look forward to using adaptive sound elements so a voice or video would say the players specific names

Great info for beginners, the more resources available the better this industry can stay. I agree with almost every bit of this video but wanted to provide my professional opinion. To me, show control is a term that would mean you are Syncing audio, video, lighting, motion, and interactive elements. Usually there is some sort of central system that ties all of these things together but it is not necessarily one type of hardware or software but a system. For example, a flex max (or even picoboos) from frightprops can be considered a show controller and are used all over the world providing this function for scenes in haunts. They may be limited but they can sync animatronics with lights, sounds, and interactive elements. In large scale installations, there is usually a more diverse range of hardware systems working together. You will have some sort of central controller cueing up lighting consoles, audio systems, video players, and PLCs handling the IO in a safe and reliable manor. What I just spoke about will only be in amusement parks and massive interactives but some parts can be consolidated for smaller venues. We unfortunately cannot make your conference this year but I look forward to future content from y’all and maybe will attend in the future.

Hey Skylar! You’re right that show control is a term that means you are syncing audio, video, lighting, motion, and interactive elements. The specific type of show control we think is most useful to the escape room context is one that is more robust and provides more mid-game flexibility and visibility than something like a Flex Max. We also agree that show control is not necessarily one type of hardware or software-it’s a combination of both. At the conference and in future videos, we will get into more of the “how to” details. But for now, we hope that escape room owners will begin to start thinking about making the shift from decentralized logic (prop controllers) to centralized logic (show control) as they design and build new rooms. Hope to see you in the future!
