I had season tickets for years to Fresno's dinner theater, and remember seeing Audra as Evita, who was absolutely mesmerizing in the role - at only 16! As a Junior in high school at the time!! Even when she was only 8/9 in the Junior Company, she stood out as an exceptional performer. (As a side note, her father was my son's high school principal. . .)

Haha, I saw Porgy & Bess last week and I was definitely one of the fans talking quietly and telling her to be quiet. She was amazing, shocker!

What Audra does in Porgy is amazing. Opera singers don't sing that many shows in a week.

Audra's so right about Starlight Express. I think I forgot about it while I was walking out of the theatre. A few seconds later I had to look at my Playbill to remind me what I just saw.

I always wonder about all these classical voice experts who claim that if you sing with the proper technique you won't have vocal problems. It seems to me this is disproved time and time again. Such technically sound and diverse singers as Audra McDonald, Julie Andrews, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Leontyne Price and Maria Callas have all had periods of vocal troubles in their careers. It seems technique can't always be the answer to escaping vocal problems. What does everyone think?
@robertr7984 жыл бұрын
Billie Davis I think it also comes down to the roles they are playing when the problems arise, how taxing that specific role is on them 8x a week, if they became ill and that exasperated any potential vocal issues, and other things. Technique gets your through it safely, but the chords are delicate and I marvel how people can do it so often.
