Sorry, mate, but you're mistaken. The cheap seats were NOT up in the balcony, but down front near the screen where your eyes would cross after a half-hour of watching a film so close to the screen. It was LIVE theatres that would have their cheap seats far away from the stage and up in the balcony. As is true today, the most expensive LIVE THEATRE seats were up front nearest the stage - but definitely not in cinemas. The most expensive CINEMA seats were either at the back of the audience, or in the balcony where watching a film was far enough away from the screen to be more comfortable on the eyeballs. Also, the snacks served did not include popcorn, but mostly small tubs of ice cream, orange/lemonade and choc-ices. And Joan Collins must have been referring to AMERICAN cinemas where they DID serve freshly-popped popcorn. Popcorn, along with its aroma, was NOT served in British cinemas, at least at that time. I lived in Holloway as a kid from 1957 to 1962 and remember seeing many films at the Savoy (later Coronet pub). Films like Tom Thumb, The Ten Commandments and Where The Boys Are. It was my local cinema, along with the Odeon at the Nag's Head and the Essoldo directly opposite the Caledonian Road Underground station.

Would be nice if the organ could be heard there one day. I know there is no organ there at the moment.

Films used to get reissued back then. Body Heat is from 1981.
