I have an second gen SBR MPX. That said, I took the MPX operator course at the Sig Academy a few years ago and a cop brought 4 MPX-K models to the class. Not one of them worked. 1 could not hold a zero with irons or a red dot. 1, when fired, the trigger would only reset when you put the gun on safe and the other 2 kept having various malfunctions. Mine came without the firing pin spring and calling Sig did not help. I had to ask the instructors at the operator course for a firing pin spring - they hooked me up. I have maybe 3,000 rounds through mine without an issue and love mine - I can shoot 4-5" groups at 100 yards, M4 ergonomics, ambi controls. But not everyone has been as lucky with theirs.

For a 60 year old gun, you gotta admit the MP5 is still up there. In terms of shooting performance alone, and in the case of the SD - sound and signature reduction, the MP5 is still the gold standard. Big testament to its design. Would love to see a modernized version of it from H&K

The mp5 can be fitted with rails, can be upgraded with optics. I shot an evo with red dot and a mp5 with irons back to back and accuracy of the mp5 was unmatched. So my first pcc was pof mp5.

In the warehouse of gun stuff that I do not understand, front and center is the love of 9MM carbines. Once I asked Frank James, who wrote Project 64, the book on the MP5 (good friend of mine and lived just north of me in White Co.), about why 9mm carbines were so beloved by the gun culture. He told me "Kirk, sometimes guns are just for fun." Lived with that answer since then. Each to his own. Loved the video, don't understand the concept.
@andreivaldez2929

9mm is less concussive out of a short barrel than 5.56mm, or other rifle calibers out of the same barrel length. That's basically the only thing going for it. Otherwise they're just fun to plink with, especially on the cheap (or at least before the pandemic) and there's also some nostalgia value to certain PCCs like the MP5. Or you could be like me and remember SMGs being really fun to use in video games. Gotta love the MP5 and MP7 in Call of Duty, ha.

I think the B&T APC 9 and the CMMG Banshee are glaring omissions from this lineup. With the APC 9 you get a reliable blowback SMG with a softer recoil from the hydraulic buffer and Swiss made precision. With the CMMG you get the Colt like feeling but with a more modern operating system.

Our 2 RDB 9mm custom builds (5" & 8" barrels) have not experienced a single malfunction and we are over 1,000 rounds on each. NOTE: if an RDB build use the ARC-9 PMAG conversion inserts and the shooter uses a magwell grip with your support hand, that can cause the PMAG magazine to slightly "tilt" to the rear which will lower the front feed lip of the magazine conversion insert. That may not be an issue with the new style barrels which have feed lips (old versions did not have feed lips) machined into them.

@@Real_Tech_Skills . I did. I don't feel like sending the gun in, going to switch bolts with them first. Failure to eject with a double feed usually, once every 30-60 rounds. Changed all springs out. Didn't work. Issue is extremely common come to find out. CMMG refuses to do a permanent fix, although some smiths have supposedly done it. Then again, there are people who claim to have no problems ever. Mine is a mk17, takes p320 mags. Scorpions go 10k rounds plus with no issue routinely.

When I decided purchase or 'build' a 9mm SMG profile firearm I wanted to keep it as simple as possible. Price was not a factor. I ended up with a PSA PA-9 lower with Colt profile magazines. The Gen 4 PSA upper with a 4" barrel. I switched out the supplied 5 oz buffer with a long 8 oz buffer which brings the combined weight of the bolt and buffer to 22.4 oz. Small, compact, AR-15 controls and it runs like a Swiss watch with last round bolt hold open for about $500 total. I do not discredit any of the other PCC's but this build is as simple as it gets.

I had this issue with mine initially. Turned out it was the new magazines, they had so much spring tension that the bolt struggled to strip the top round from the mag into the chamber. I think if we look at law enforcement and military, then cross reference with competition shooting; we will find that the Sig MPX and CZ Scorpion will float to the top. The CMMG Banshee is a good range toy, but you don’t see top shooters using it. I can name at least three top tier and famous shooters off the top of my head using the Sig MPX, and I see the CZ Scorpion everywhere at USPDA competitions. I would need to see their input on why.
@paddypibblet846

The Sig is very popular because its the cheapest of the softest shooting PCCs available. Technically the best gun out right now is the jp5 but that's a $3300 dollar gun so it's not as common. The Sig MPX uses a gas system (as opposed to the direct blowback you see in most PCCs) which makes it a very low recoiling PCC, comparable to an airsoft gun. The scorpion on the other hand, is very cheap, very common, and very reliable so it's used A LOT. However, it's also heavy on the recoil and competition shooters really care about having no recoil. For non-competitive use, there are better options than the finicky MPX or expensive JP5

I only have trigger time on the MP-5 series (normal, k, and sd) and the Colt pattern. I love shooting the MP-5 due to the amazingly soft recoil but as you mentioned, the human engineering is bad. I’ve also never shot a reliable MP-5. Mis-feeds and fte’s are common. I hated my Colt pattern SBR. Recoil was heavy, broke a bolt catch, and wasn’t particularly reliable suppressed or unsuppressed. I’d love to get an MPX but alas I’m out of work injured and finds simply won’t allow. Thanks for the awesome info Chris. Hope you and your family have a great weekend.

@@beanguyensonr currently I think the banshee is overpriced. It is more of a $1200 gun not $1500. Also it is not as soft shooting as advertised. I have an fm9 with a taccom buffer that is softer shooting than the banshee. I had to add/change a lot of parts to the banshee to make it satisfactory. The charging handle is way too big on the 300 series. The trigger is bad. The sling loops on the rear plate cut into my hand. To soften the recoil I had to add the cmmg weights to the bcg and put a high power spring in the buffer tube. I wanted to add a heavier buffer but the buffer tube is about 1 inch shorter than mil spec, so you have to change the buffer tube to do that. The most satisfying set up that I had was the factory weight bcg, mil spec buffer tube and a 7.5oz heavy buffer. It ran soft and locked back on the last round on all ammo that I tried, but I changed it out for my current set up to keep the rip brace. I hope this helps. @@KnifeCursed I like your list, personally would just add the PWS to it. Their adjustable long stroke system make it one of the best (possibly *the* best) AR platform suppressor host. I see in the comments others have as well. do we know what caused the extractors to break? I shoot it suppressed, there are some suppressors that are terrible with this gun, my F1 seems to work very well with no gas in the face regardless of ammo.

The MPX is a dumpster fire. 3 generations and it’s still a mess. The scorpion also sucks. Terrible grip and recoil is atrocious. The MP5 is 3k and still gets purchased all day long. Gun has had minimal upgrades since 1964 and has one in the Smithsonian with 300,000 rounds documented and still going. In full auto, nothing touches its performance.
@SmallArmsSolutions

Everyone has an opinion.mechanically, you are way off on performance. The MP5 is rarely purchased. It is way out of date and obsolete. It was be as t out in India by the Colt 9mm SMG. Many just have nostalgia over the MP5. The MPX and Scorpion are the top selling SMG’s in the free world. Trigger, recoil, accuracy and human engineering, mp5 is at the end of the line. It’s WW2 tech.

The scorpion is so badass and always has been. Truly a legendary gun and a favorite of 'bad guys' everywhere haha. I really should probably get one of the 3 EVO+ Pistols or Micros before Colt finds a way to screw that up now that they have their dirty fingers all up in CZ now. OH, THAT REMINDS ME. Chris, would you be able/willing to do a video about the Colt/CZ merge or acquisition or whatever the hell it was, and what's going on with that and what you think about it? It seems really really really strange, and seems like a bad move for CZ to make, I don't really understand what their plan is, and from what I've heard from an acquaintance who used to work for CZ USA, it sounds like it's not gonna go well, and it sounds like CZ brought Colt in, but is still letting the same people who ruined Colt continue to run a lot of things and have maybe even given those clowns MORE power.
@SmallArmsSolutions
@SmallArmsSolutions 7 ай бұрын
I would like to, but I don’t have access to the needed information to give you an accurate representation of how it is working. All I can tell you is they are still two very different companies who are run very differently. CZ is a well ran progressive defense manufacturer. They produce full one of modern high quality pistols, assault rifles, SMG and bolt rifles. Colt on the other hand is still reintroducing old products with nothing new to offer the market. They live off legacy rifles sold to the US Govt. I was hoping to see CZ change Colt management and use their business model of producing modern family of weapons to bring the company back to its former industry leading status. This is observable to anyone who sees Colts current product line. New products are bringing back revolvers which will not assist Colt in the international military markets. CZ on the other hand, has a product for every need an army or modern PD would need. State of the art pistols, SMG, Assault Rifles and bolt sniper rifles. The Bren 2 and the new Bren 3 are probably in the top rifles in the industry. CZ keeps improving on the design. Just hope we get to see the Bren 3 in the US!

You to can add the modern Accesories for a mere $5k you can try to make your old MP5 do what modern designs do! The ergos are not there. The trigger is not there. Not locking back is not there. Additional step in retracting the bolt when reloading slows you down when other designs merely have a button to push. The MP5 was good in its day but its day is long past.

Would love to see you assess the B&T APC9 vs. these. I have a Micro Scorpion, which I love, and only passed on the APC9 due to cost, of both the gun and its mags. When I was shopping for a PCC, the MPX was relatively new, and there were a lot of problems with it (as usual with SIG any more). A lot of those problems have been fixed, but I think the gas blowback with a suppressor is much worse on the MPX vs. both the Scorpion and APC9. Great video, as usual!

Based on the information given I think I would put the Colt at four and MP5 at three. In the 4 steps you counted for the MP5 you skipped inserting a magazine as a step for the other SBR so it’s only a 1 step difference, not two.

I am definitely more of the Scorpion being #1, as for the MPX being #1 of your choice, I didnt like for exactly the same reason you liked it, the M16 battery of arms To me, I have no doubt it the M16 battery of arms is one of the best for practical use but I find it also incredibly boring. The MPX looks like an AR type platform, nothing about it excites me. I know it works and its a good gun, but its not exciting, it doesnt look good or special The Scorpion however, looks cool as heck AND functions amazingly for me (scratches my MP5 itch too) but technologically speaking direct blowback cant compare to the gas piston of the MPX of course. But given the ergos for me, the looks, the functionality, the accuracy, the cost, the Scorpion still rates highest to me
