Thanks Doug. Wow ! You did get a bad sample. I did have to tug on my nib, a bit more than normal, but it did come out. I replaced that nib with a Goulet(Jowo) flex nib, from another pen and very happy with the writing experience . Other than that, the pen is fine. I just didn't have a triangular pen in my collection, and thought this would tick the box. I got the black with gold trim . Thanks again. KB

Yup... I pulled the nib too. Replaced it with a #6 JoWo EF flex. It took a bunch of tugging. I'ma thinkin that warning the section in warm water might help a bit.. By the way, the nib works fine...

@InkquiringMinds Thanks Doug, I saw it. Yes, I did have to struggle more than any other nib, to get this nib out. I did bend a few fins , but straighten out. I do believe Doodlebud struggled with his nib removal, too. KB

I have to say, mine is much better than I expected. Even the fine nib writes smoothly. For the price, I am impressed. As for longevity, of course, I won't hold my breath. A pity they didn't take that one extra step to make the pen serviceable. But, by the way, I had to send back a brand new Omas Ogiva because the piston stopped working--and that was $300 plus!

I bought one in red and silver a couple of weeks ago and have been pleased with it, I find it extremely comfortable to write with. I agree with your comments about the nib, but mine did respond to some basic tuning and now writes nicely.

As usual a great and thorough review Doug. I have an Omas 360's that i bought from Artlite back in the 80's. I thought it looked very cool and wanted to own one. I still own it. Never use it. It was repaired twice and that was enough. I will let someone else deal with it when I am gone. I bought several of the new Majohn v60's. So far they have been great. i did use a brass sheet to spread the EF nibs a bit and after doing that they all write well. They are smooth and wet which is a perfect combination for me. If they need to be repaired I will let someone else deal with. Have a great day sir.

Huh that was a wild ride. Thanks Doug. I still quite like mine. Got it with a broad long knife nib. Writes like butter with tons of line variation. I’ve never had to relube a piston on any of my pens. I’ll hope my nib comes out if I ever need to.

I got the long knife nib as well (branded "Lemon," from the 365Days Stationery Store on Ali Express) but I probably shouldn't have gone with the 1.2-1.7mm nib because it is really, really broad. It writes very well though.

Mine arrived today from AliExpress for $24. Mine writes fine without needing any nib adjustment, but that's a little unusual for me - I almost always have to do a bit of work on Chinese pen nibs. I haven't tried to remove the nib yet. This will come in handy for a very specific application - I need a snap cap pen that orients instantly - but I doubt that the cap seal will last more than a few months.

Thanks for another great and entertaining review! I have 2 of these. Removing the nib from the first was easy. The second required some additional effort. I installed a medium Moonman nib in the first and a broad jowo in the second. They both perform well. Ultimately I still hate the triangular grip section but we wont discuss my gluttony for punishment haha. I also have the Pineider for comparison and i feel these are better made. My Pineider has fallen apart twice already and the plastic feels soft and cheap. Fortunately neither of mine have cracked so that is something to be cautious of.

Mine (fine) writes absolutely beautifully. It might be a bit of hyperbole to suggest that it'll stop functioning after a few years because you can't take it apart. Perhaps I'm unusual, but I don't take apart my piston fillers and they continue to function just fine. And if mine stops functioning (piston seizes up, as you suggest) in 10-years, well, it was $23. I'm glad that you take apart all your pens before using them (and sometimes damage them in the process as in this case), because it's educational for many of us, but I suspect that you are an outlier in this regards and something to consider when being overly critical of a fountain pen. It's common to fall into the trap of becoming jaded in a passionate activity. Think of the masses 🙂 👍

I can see Doug wanting to disassemble this pen because he repairs pens, so he’d naturally be focused on this aspect. What I find foolish is the current trend of literally disassembling pens to insure every last micro-drop of ink is removed, lest your next ink fill be every so slightly off color. Strikes me as rather ODC.

While I see the downsides and all, I am very enthusiastic about chinese manufacturers coming up with different pens. If they manage to polish some faults and improve them, I say, bring it on. Definitely better for the pen community than 40 new Sailor colour combinations.

Initially, when I first started using my MaJohn/MoonMan V60 I was horrified with the sharpness of the edges. Now I have persevered with it over a week,I have become a fan 🪭 and have ordered a second white/gold since the red/gold is sold out! Realigning rules out disassembly. The Lamy Ideos is another triangular grip section I use with Safaris Al Star . ME 262 German jet fighter WW2.👀 PS I have just ordered 2 Pelikan Twists - the Omas 360 may take a while. I certainly have a number of Majohn pens and the nibs are the worst. No comparison, for example, with Penbbs.... Personally I really like the Penbbs F as well as the Hongdian in general. Jinhao also offers great nibs at a low cost. But Moonman (Majohn) is to be avoided.. A great and clarifying video. Greetings

Shame you got a dud. I've heard good things about these except the nibs. I considered getting one in the wine red with gold trim, but they aren't in stock anywhere. Thought about the black with gold didn't do it though. I was going to swap the nib out for a JoWo stub or medium. I already own an ASC Triangolo. What I like about that pen is the grip section ASC rounded it instead of it being a triangle. Really makes it feel comfortable. The filling system is a Chilton style, so a hole at the end you unscrew it and then put your finger over the hole and push down. It creates a vacuum and you let off the hole and the ink sack releases and sucks up ink. Also has an 18k gold #8 nib. I believe it's a Bock and the nib is bouncy but not a flex nib with ebonite feed. It is also the green autumn celluloid. I adore it, but it doesn't leave the house unless I take it to the bank to sign something or the like. Great video Doug even though the pen let you down.

Great video, Doug! Thanks for taking another one for the team. I have an OMAS 360 so I will take your advice and pass the V60 by. I was led to believe that a special tool was needed to remove the OMAS 360 nib and feed. Is it easy to do? As for the first jet , it was a ME 262, developed and deployed by the Germans near the end of WW2! Thanks again for saving me $33 or so. I may try the Asvine J16 instead.

I wasnt going to get one of these as they are unreasonably unservicable and knowing me I would break the thing before even inking it trying to figure out how to pull it apart using all the mechenisms at my disposal to distroy it to the fullest of its destruction to figure out why . I just inked up my Pelikan twist fountain pen I couldnt find a cartridge that would fit it without leaking everywhere so I took a schmidt k5 from my conklin and it fits great so thats gonna be in this weeks currently inked pens later today :)

If they insist the piston assembly should not be removable, then it should be possible to lubricate it from the front end. If they insist the nib housing has to be glued in, make a feed with sturdy fins so you can pull it out without bending the fins. But apparently they insist that all three of those things are unnecessary and so your conclusion that it is made to be disposable seems the only logical one; three strikes and they're out.

Mine (in yellow/silver) arrived yesterday. I noticed there were two notches in the top of the nib unit collar and tried to use a previous Moonman piston tool to turn the nib unit. I just succeeded in taking a notch out of the soft yellow plastic. The pen is a big disappointment - feels lightweight, uncomfortable to write with (I have a standard grip and like the Safari section). The nib I find ok, but I prefer Asvine for better nib choice availability.

When I heard that MaJohn/Moonman came out with the V60, I was very intrigued. I have the Omas 360 ballpoint and was looking for a companion fountain pen, not wanting to spend a large sum of money for the original. This is not the one for sure. I only have 3 Moonman pens - the M800, the Ti500, and the C4. The company can make quality pens but the nibs can be atrocious. A lot of smoothing and tine adjustments. This pen is bogus.

Ironically I have to ask is that a genuine Mahjohn or a knock-off Mahjohn / Mahjohn, because my friends who purchased this say the nib was superb out of the box, and they get them boxed with the tool for servicing. Also, they tell me the weight is about 7g to 10g heavier than your measures? My comment isn't a criticism of this review or any other review, I just suspect people are buying copies of copies and this is why we see such variability in reviews.

Just an update. I don't want to slander anyone unnecessarily but some associates have alerted me to another possibility. It may be the case that the pre-release samples sent out for review and the very early residual stock are somewhat different from what people are now buying. Unfortunately, my Shanghai associate warns me this is normal, furthermore you can't judge based on the price either, it's a case of buyer beware.
