Great advice! The only thing to keep in mind with shower curtains (same with bed sheets) is that manufacturers sometimes will add a really light blue tint to make it look "whiter" which means that people should always be doing custom WB :).

Thanks for the nice comparison, Ed. Pleasantly surprised the Newer diffusion panel and the $3 shower curtain worked pretty well. I myself cannot tell the difference between these two from the photos. You also demonstrated one advantage of using these two vs. the softbox or the shoot-thru umbrella: the distance between speedlight and the diffusion/shower curtain can be adjusted, thus to achieve a different effect.

You made me think, thank you. At about 06:20 the title is opposite for the images: the two "side by side" series have the opposite flash distance, for the image Eg: the image is for 4 foot flash distance but the title says 2 foot flash distance, no? But who counting... to pay 3 bucks for great portrait light. WB issues?... shoot raw no problem... Thank for the great tutorials EV.

Good Advice. The only drawback is light scattering. If the studio is too light the light spreads everywhere. which gives nice soft lighting but is harder to control...

Yes. As with a shoot through umbrella. Especially in a smaller room.

Ed I just bought that same Neewer cloth a couple of weeks ago for a project I have in mind (creating a cloth diffuser to substitute the plate in a beauty dish - man after 2 months locked up all alone I've got to do something; so far I have like 500 pictures of myself) and I don't notice the difference between the cloth and the shower curtain.-Hope you are sharing your home with some one; I am about ready to place an ad öld man looking for a woman (any woman) that fights and screams !!!!

There is so little difference that I'll go with the shower curtain liner. The area around the collar bone was only slightly more shiny, but unless you eat garlic every day and sport that greasy skin shine, it shouldn't show. Other than that the shower curtain liner is cheap and easy to use, especially if you want to make soft boxes at home, but I'll go with the panel instead.

5 or 7 piece diffuser, reflection kits for 30-40 dollar/euro and you have it all, foldable and portable , but choose the bigger ones !!

Very informative video. a few questions if you have a color meter what is the color temperature differences between the two white diffuse materials and what is the f stop difference with and without the diffusion materials and finally using your boom arm how did you attach the other end to a lightstand?

I didn’t measure color differences but the shower curtain liner seems slightly warmer. Neewar says the fabric cuts one stop. The liner is about the same. The boom arm has standard stud connection holes (horizontal and on the top).

It's a matter of perspective. Yes the real one is with $17 more, for its neutrality and greater transmission but only because $17 is nothing for photo gear. Overall, the $3 solution isn't merely good enough, it's objectively good.

Yes, but it’ll be much lower in power, so camera settings (like higher ISO) will have to make up for it.

How strong does the LED need to be. Is it the the lumen (5000 K for example) or the amount of watt to look out for?

5000 k refers to the color not the power. I would check reviews to see if others have successfully used a particular light.
