One weekend too late for me. But I'm glad I watched because I did not realize the P-Trap part that moved needed to be cemented. Luckily we are moving at a glacial pace and it can be addressed. I noticed I did not seem to have much time to make minor adjustments to my ABS when welding, maybe 2-3 seconds before it was stuck. I'm assuming this was because I did not put enough cement given how much I see you use. Live and learn. Thanks for you and your partner's videos.

Normally you just have a few seconds before the weld sets up. That and the fact that my eyes are bad are the reason I use the white Pica Dry insert. It really helps when the light is dim, which is common in plumbing

Nice tips i was about to make the mistake regarding theeaded connection with no access in a couple of days... Off topic question. I dont see many videos in general about shower towers / panels (the wall mounted units). From what i can gather their warranties are not great + too many fairly new/foreign companies ... + Price... That being said to me seems like install and replacement would be easier. Even if you cant find the same company down the road, as long as you can find a simmilar one replacement is just two hose connections to the unit... Where as shower valves seems more involved especially if welded ... What are ppls thoughts, is there something else terribly wrong with these wall mounted shower towers why they are not used?
@HomeRepairTutor9 ай бұрын
I would not buy any shower valves made by third parties and sold on Amazon. You’ll pay a cheap price but for a reason - the parts are plastic and the odds of failure increase with time. I recommend Delta or Hansgrohe valves. They have great parts, excellent warranties and the trim will last for years. Save your money and avoid any valve sold on Amazon, only buy valves from build.com or supplyhouse.com or local plumbing supply distributions

sooooo I may have used a threaded ptrap in my shower install. I did leak test and it was fine. Will this fail prematurely? I can create access by cutting out dry wall from the main floor ceiling to replace it. Now that it's done should I replace now or wait for an issue?

The main pipe is vertical PVC, using a PVC P-trap, but the drainer is ABS. What cement should be used when connecting PVC to the ABS drain?
@HomeRepairTutor4 ай бұрын
Technically you can use Oatey’s Green Transition Cement. But I’d try to get a PVC drain

Thank you 🙏🏼 I used the foam spacer from the KERDI pan to get the riser pipe dimension. After I solvent welded the KERDI-DRAIN to the riser, I used ALL-SET to bond the spacer to the floor under the KERDI-DRAIN 👍🏼

@@HomeRepairTutor I had noticed you always chamfer the pipe, best practice I’m sure but I’m well aware most plumbers skip this step. I hadn’t chamfered ABS either and had never had issues, however I would think it might help with getting the dry fit more accurate. I had found Often it’s difficult To get perfect measurements as the pipe will not fully “seat” itself in the fitting when dry and then when applying glue the pipe will fully seat leaving it a little short. Do you find with the chamfer helps with easier connections during the dryfit?

After gluing and installing the flange. There ended up being a 1/4 gap between the foam donut and the flange. Is that a problem?
@HomeRepairTutor8 ай бұрын
Yes, that’s a problem because you won’t be able to properly waterproof and water will pool at the drain if it’s higher than the tray
@carolline32688 ай бұрын
I still need to add all set below and above the donut foam. That will not fill the 1/4 gap?? When I remove the the donut foam and use the gray foam spacers, there doesn’t look to be much of a gap. About 1/8.

I don't like apartment living, because many times when taking a SHOWER, or after using my toilet, I have heard noises, underneath, toilet or pipes noises, or other showers, or water running in other parts of the apartment complex, during the time I have been SHOWERING washing my body, or there will be water draining out of my tub, even when the drain lever is completely closed, water will still drain OUT when I want to soak my feet in the Tub. @@kidfusion3000 you can do that with the Schluter pan because it has the foam spacers. In fact, the Schluter KERDI-DRAIN comes with spacers that the plumber can use to set the drain and account for the pan height. That’s what I did but with the spacer from the pan

@@HomeRepairTutor I have some of the tools myself what you have, and they are life saver. So much time gets saved. People usually think, how do I MAKE things, well, there also is a part when you spend as much effort in dismantling or preparing your work space and if you were to use very simple tools, yes, great to have them but sometimes takes a very long time. Unless some DIY'ers don't want to put the effort and look for ways around it. Anyway, sorry but it is a senseless criticism. I usually want to know what some tool is called that makes my life easier.
