Hi mark great video. Well done for perseverance on removing cylinder fitting. In the end in the loft, did you tee off from the hot shower pump outlet directly onto the hot pipe feeding the taps? Ive not seen a shower pump used to also boost the gravity hot water. Im impressed. Presumably doing it this way doesn't void pump warrenty. Keep up the great content 👍👍

Was once doing an upgrade to a heating system for a friend who was a detective constable. On the Monday morning as we started he told me he and his wife had been to a Sunday market where he’d seen one stall holder with around 20 lawnmowers for sale. With a knowing look between him and me we both new they weren’t honestly acquired.

Great job as always Mr Tiff. Personally I prefer Stuart Turner pumps, they're quieter and I've far less issues with ST. Probably would've mounted the pump on a piece of 18mm ply to improve stability. Interestingly most pump manufacturers will not honour their unless fitted correctly, which includes an S Flange. So you did the right thing there, mate. Loving your work 👏🏻. Thanks for the video 👍🏻 🌟

I split a tank once wile changing the immersion heater, had to do a temp fix until I could get round to replace it! Quick question, why use the grips all the time, especially on flange nuts and compression fittings? The reason I ask is as your gripping and especially on tight ones like that, you squash the nut wall against the thread and make it harder to undo, but if you was to use a spanner or adjustable it pushes against the tips of the flats and creates more of a turning motion.

A few comments from me 1) if you gently sand the top of the cylinder to make it smooth and flat where the s flange goes in, then the fibre washer is generally sufficient to seal, just a little bit of PTFE around the threads to reduce friction (not to make the seal) and it works absolutely great with a gentle snug down. My understanding is the threads are parallel so they aren’t designed to make the seal. 2) Salamander universal pumps are terrible, they eventually become very slow to switch on after a year or so and this gets progressively worse. I appreciate the customers are to a budget but at the very least they should have gone for a Stuart Turner. Wouldn’t touch a salamander pump with a barge pole anymore.

The only problem with using Loctite 55 is it has a resin in it that hardens and can make it difficult to remove in the future. Personally I would use the paste, gasket ptfe and a ptfe grommet against the shoulder so it compresses between the two faces.

Hmm. Salamander hot water entry comes from the top of the cylinder and is linked to the vent (don't remember now, but there is a substantial air gap to the water storage tank). I'm interested in another aspect: is there a risk that the HW pump intake will start drawing air from the vent (which is T'd: cylinder+vent+salamander)? Only just started level 2 CH systems and it is a bit mind boggling sometimes.
@MJTiffPlumbing6 ай бұрын
Nope….. as that is the whole point of fitting the S-Flange…. It sits further down in the tank and eliminates all those issues👍🏼👌🏼

Go into a Rolex store and ask to buy a Rolex they'll say there's no stock and put you on a waiting list other brands do this. The petition should be for Van companies to take responsibility and install reenforced doors and safety features as standard. We shouldn't have to buy aftermarket. Tools should have chips that can be registered and if they're not scanned yearly by the owner they get disabled and can't be used
