Ya I agree. My former dad was like that. He would just be on his computer, or electronics any time I tried to show him anything I was proud of too. I'd show him a drawing, or good grades, or something I made that I worked really really hard on, and he'd just look up for like a second and then go "hm" , or "good." in a monotone voice and then go back to programming for his stupid dumb programming company he works at. Anyways he disowned me last September because he couldn't handle me not being a submissive pet anymore. And now I'm a Satanist chaos mage who will never waist my efforts on people like my dad ever again. So I guess it worked out in the end. Overall things are much better now.

I'm almost feeling the opposite. I know at least one guy who would garner everyone's attention and then not deliver, to the surprise of nobody. He's an autist and so it's not just a case of him being annoying on purpose, but I dread those moments when you're having a conversation, he interrupts it, calls for attention, then pulls out a phone to start scrolling for the 8 minute video he wanted to show to everybody purely because the video has one thematic overlap with a thing that has remotely been a topic in a joke someone made on the side. Agh. He's not a bad person but you kinda just want to ignore him. Joel number 1 doing the "let me show you something right quick", not explaining anything and just going straight to a minute of him doing something by himself reminds me so much of it and I felt that familiar chest knot when his trick failed.

He would also bust out other ones to share and it was genuinely fun to do while drunk. Ps. the trick is to bend the knees when the ball lands on top so it doesn't bounce

I know a kendama juggler. It's the hardest to master ability that looks the least impressive. In my experience, friends are the kind of people who will tell you, to your face, that what you're doing isn't that interesting. But they'll make it funny to be clear that they aren't trying to hurt your feelings. They just tell you honestly that the thing isn't interesting to them, so you'll maybe reconsider before showing it to other people. Because people who are not your friends will tell you that it was epic, while not really paying attention. And they will quietly resent that you wasted their time. And they will tell people about it, if they really didn't like it. And you take a slight hit to your reputation with that person, when they could have just been honest. Maybe I've just been surrounded by the wrong kind of people, but this is my experience. Friends are the honest ones.
