Ya I agree. My former dad was like that. He would just be on his computer, or electronics any time I tried to show him anything I was proud of too. I'd show him a drawing, or good grades, or something I made that I worked really really hard on, and he'd just look up for like a second and then go "hm" , or "good." in a monotone voice and then go back to programming for his stupid dumb programming company he works at. Anyways he disowned me last September because he couldn't handle me not being a submissive pet anymore. And now I'm a Satanist chaos mage who will never waist my efforts on people like my dad ever again. So I guess it worked out in the end. Overall things are much better now.

@@max_the_mantis5173 very sorry to hear about your troubles with the man who was around during your upbringing. My dad was also very dismissive and critical of everything I did. I learned that he has been treated the same way his whole life and hadn't done the work on himself to become a decent parent. I have to warn you though. satanism will destroy you. I'm almost feeling the opposite. I know at least one guy who would garner everyone's attention and then not deliver, to the surprise of nobody. He's an autist and so it's not just a case of him being annoying on purpose, but I dread those moments when you're having a conversation, he interrupts it, calls for attention, then pulls out a phone to start scrolling for the 8 minute video he wanted to show to everybody purely because the video has one thematic overlap with a thing that has remotely been a topic in a joke someone made on the side. Agh. He's not a bad person but you kinda just want to ignore him. Joel number 1 doing the "let me show you something right quick", not explaining anything and just going straight to a minute of him doing something by himself reminds me so much of it and I felt that familiar chest knot when his trick failed.

Nothing can prepare one for the next scene; I am unmoored, without foundations, drifting past the shifting sands of Joel's mind. Over the past decade, nothing is more condescending than calling it "epic." It's the new, "interesting". People don't call something "interesting" genuinely. :(
