I was much more familiar with the Camarata/Darlene Gillespie album before I ever saw the film in its 1974 rerelease. It took me awhile to get used to the soundtrack. Now I love them both!

Maybe the greatest color styling of any American film, animated or otherwise. I have this album on vinyl and disc.

I too bought this soundtrack on ITunes a few years ago. Such a very lush, dreamy and romantic score, I believe it was Camarata's favorite of his own. I find it superior to the actual soundtrack of the movie, most notably that Alice has a better singing voice.

the original soundtrack has some incredible arrangements as well. especially the intro (title) with the choir. as well as the end when she returns to reality, some amazing choir there. really makes me shiver!

i remember the Camarata version of Alice in Wonderland was always the song that got dumped on any of the compliation Disney records I had as a child. I never could understand why they never used the original soundtrack version, but now I know its because the tracks only existed in truncated or chopped versions, so this was a complete song. Geez though, what a fantastic arrangement it is, and actually the entire Camarata Alice album as well. For the songs where Alice sings, even though Darlene Gillespie does a very nice job and is obviously a better singer than Kathryn Beaumont, Ms. Beaumont IS Alice, at least the original Alice, so I'd rather have her singing backed by Camarata orchestration. Still, this brings back distinct memories of childhood for sure.
