Wow. I salute parents. It isn't easy to teach children abroad. Naye it is disheartening to see many children esp in Uganda not in position to speak their own mother languages. Here in Norway people write even their Ph.D in their own language [Norwegian] and speak English well.

Big up bro I grew up in Newham East London too, but when I came to UK I could already speak uganda languages, the challenge is most Ugandañ parents don't want their kids to speak Ugandañs language, they don't even try to teach them, it's only when the kids themselves are interested they learn from community friends, relatives, social media. But west Africans Nigerians, Ghana they teach their kids to speak their dialect first then English second.

And Shaun's parents mastered it. Big up to his parents. They really did a great job. Your language or culture is your identity whether you like it or not, let it sink in.
