I like the way he confidently uses the brushes and pens. That's a real artist.

Amazing how McQueen could draw so beautifully. And so quickly. What a loss.

I agree. Pretty sure he's off his nut on drugs here though. I wish there was less acceptance of constant, fucked up intoxication in artistic practice. So few people question it while they're getting results, then happy to toss away the person when they're too munted to function.

Kind of sad. This video confirmed my worst fear for Mr. Mc Queen. He did not know how draw or paint very well. Still, there is no denying he had an incredible imagination. He deserved every penny he earned.

Sammy smith he was a seamster before he became a designer which is why his garments were so powerful. It's all about knowing how to manipulate the material, the initial sketch is merely a formality to keep track of your research process.

LOL why he needed to draw or paint well? He was just GENIUS he even didn't need to draw or paint good....it goes beyond this. Such genius needs no drawing skills. The way he used his imagination, goes beyond any practical skills, although he was excellent seamaster and tailor if you want, craftsman , still it is even not about this if you understand the talent the gift he had ...he was very RARE genius.

Your fear would only be warranted if it affected how he designed and made clothes. But clearly, it didn't. Him not having drawing or painting skills is irrelevant when he more than made up for it in his impeccable tailoring and incredible creativity.

The fashion sketches are never highly detailed or precisely executed like fine art. They are rough drafts, as like a sketch before paint. Like a geographical map doesn't show accurate flora and fauna of an area, just a general texture and color. I'm sure if he applied himself with fine art in mind, he would of blown us away.

The idea of design is to be able to translate your idea/ drawing. if you can translate it there's no such thing as being good or bad a drawing. If your a designer the goal is to be an efficient communicator not nessarily a good "artist" if you get what im sayin'
