The Serbs had all the radars switched off and they were using passive sensors (ELINT) to scan for signals.. The anti-air batteries were preemptively dispersed away from their garrisons. When a signal was detected they would switch on the radar for 20 seconds to guide the anti-air missiles and then switch it off again.. This tactic is called emission control (EMCON). They also used many decoys "SAM-launchers" to confuse the Western bombers and consume their expensive weapons without success.

The thing is this... Many systems use The “Mass” of the target as it’s identification... Which means Once the target is seen by the aggressor’s missiles optics Very little interference ( if any ) will stop it impacting the target ! Any Electronic interference would be secondary to the missiles mission because the target would ( by then ) be sighted and targeted .... I’m a novice at these arguments so I am open to contrary argument... this is just my opinion..

The same tactics was used during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia later; SAM crews would use their radars briefly in order to avoid being detected and targeted themselves. Guidance radar was used no more than a few seconds; on launch, then off, then on again seconds before the expected impact. Of course, the chances of scoring a hit that way are lower than having the radar on all the time, but it was safer for the SAMs.

NATO's aerial campaign in Bosnia helped Serbian military to study and predict NATO's pattern in case they attack Serbia & Montenegro (then called Federal Republic of Yugoslavia). The prediction was 95 % correct. The bombing campaign planned to last 5-7 days actually lasted 78 days and nights, during which NATO destroyed 4 % of our military capabilities. What NATO did manage to destroy was infrastructure and economy, around 90 brigdes, 20 factories, road network, railway network, trains, oil rafineries, and in some places hospitals, university buildings and post offices.

There is info about why he had little time to react. SA6 has launch mode that turns missile guidance 4-5 sec after launch. And that is used when firing 2 missiles from same launcher so second one doesnt have isuess with smoke and debris from first one. Story goes that mode was used but on first missile. Works fine as long target is not doing anything drastic before tracking starts. And in this case it didnt. Also fun fact - ejection seats from M2000 ended being used on late former ambassador to Russia Miroslav Lazanski custom built SUV.
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
That does make sense because otherwise, he would have at least ten seconds to react. But as far as I can tell, warning that he was tracked came before that. I guess he should have reacted immediately. Didn't know about the use of the seat.

Many are saying that the NEVA missile shoot down in 1999, of the F117 made it useless, not so. The Serbs did take good advantage of the fact that with long wave radar they could detect the plane at about 30 kilometers when it opened its bomb bay doors, they had positioned missile batteries along routs that NATO planes were using, which was a bad mistake that planners had made (flying the same rout many times) When they detected the F-117 with doors open they new course and speed and also used optical sightings to shoot, they ripple fired missiles and got lucky. The Serbs were very good and smart shooters but it would not have happened if the NATO planners had done there jobs properly. Besides we lost 1 F-117 and 1 F-16 what did Serbia lose.

I really like this series. Also, it must have been very hard to get the sequence at 06:50 correctly, I don't know how you made a SAM launch a missle and make the missle go between two aircraft. The first shootdown must have taken some trying too, usually my pilot dies in DCS when I get shot down.
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
Spoiler alert! If you are afraid of ruining the magic of these videos, don't read this 😁 This did take quite a few tries. First thing I realized is that SA-6 will ALWAYS hit an F-16 that's not pulling 9g and chaffing like crazy. So I added a third F-16 that was following the first two on a higher altitude, set it on 'don't react to threat' and made the first two F-16s invisible. The missile that passed between them (me and the leader) actually hit the third plane but that doesn't show. Second thing I realized is that F-16 pilot always dies when his airplane is hit by a missile. Any missile. Even when it's not a direct hit. I actually placed a MiG-21 behind me and just let it hit me with an R-60 (notorious for its small warhead) so I could do the ejection scene. Tried it for 5-6 times and the pilot always died. So finally, I had one track where the SA-6 hits the F-16. In another track, I just ejected out of a perfectly good F-16 but I previously set a trigger to explode it with a small size explosion as soon as it got damaged (which it was by the ejection). You need to do tricks like that all the time if you want to get an outcome that's anywhere near the historical one. If you ever watched any of the GR 'reenactments' you must have noticed that theirs are almost always completely different. That's why 😁

Napravi video i o rušenju B2 1999. Napadi na aerodrome u Tuzli i Tirani takođe. It's not. F-117 is not called 'invisible' at all. That is just a very imprecise translation to some languages. 'Stealth' doesn't mean invisible.

French Mirage 2000 was shot down with SA-16 Igla, not with SA-7 Strela. Missiles were smuggled via Bulgaria in 1994. Man who fired the missile was my sargent in the army, 10 years later, I know that for a fact.

As O'Grady describes it, everything happened very fast. Probably a lot faster than shown here. It might have something to do with the fact that this was a 'near-war' situation for the NATO pilots. Kinda like Southern and Northern Watch. They would sometimes get locked up but mostly it didn't end in a real shot. Or at least, not a guided one, Iraqis sometimes just shot missiles ballistic for effect. Still, he should have chaffed like crazy as soon as he realized he was being tracked.

To be exact, US aircraft waypoint plotters are bunch of lazies that they don't change new waypoint route for aircraft on patrol. Serbs identified and marked US standard fixed waypoints placing spotters, radars, SAM/AAA along the route waiting for opportunity to down US aircraft. Russian & Chinese analyst and experts were there too conducting avionics research on US aircraft especially stealth plane. That's how US lost F-16 & F-117
@showtime1123 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it might be a challenge of those near-war situation. You can easily get lulled into a false sense of comfort. But there's even worse. I recently listened to a very interesting episode of a podcast called 10 Percent True, don't know if you are familiar with it. A guest was an F-111 pilot who participated in operation Eldorado Canyon. They were ordered to attack the target one by one from exactly the same direction. That's why one F-111 was shot down and the crew died.
@jawarakf3 жыл бұрын
@@showtime112 thanks for the info. Flying from same direction again & again allowed enemy GCI & anti-air emplacement to get the practice they need to shoot the F-111 down. Also, thanks to US waypoint plotters, the salvaged F-117 along with multiple detection avionics conducted on F-117 & B-2 flying over Serbia gave Russia & China the opportunity to learn, obtain & reverse engineer US stealth technology few years later. On the inside, Russia & China probably do thank US for that.

Most of these videos (Vietname era to present) demonstrate many losses were due to pilots making bad defensive decisions. I can't believe he did not use chaff. Overconfidence and stupidity. Like the Harriers that made some bombing runs but never ejected flares after releasing their bombs after already having had shoulder-fired missiles fired at them once already. It blows the mind.
