Shravanabelagola BAHUBALI Darshan | 800 Steps to reach the Divine Place | Road Trip from Bangalore |

I am there again with yet another exiting trip of mine, this time to Bangalare and Pondicherry.
Our main intent to visit Bangalore was to have darshan at Shri Sharavanabelagola - famous Jain Tirth located near Channarayapatna of Hassan district in the Indian state of Karnataka and is 144 km (89 mi) from Bengaluru. The Gommateshwara Bahubali statue at Shravanabelagola is one of the most important tirthas (pilgrimage destinations) in Jainism.
This place is spread over two hills - Chandragiri and Vindhyagiri .Gommateshwara Bahubali statue is one of the tirthas for Jains Tirthas means pilgrimage destinations.
The statue is Gommateshwara for Kannadigas and Bahubali is for Jains
Gommateshwara statue is world’s largest monolithic statue
The statue is 70 ft tall
Mahamastakabhisheka is the important festival here and it happens in 12 yrs
The recent one was held in feb 2018 and the next one will be in 2030
During this festival, Bahubali statue is washed and rubbed with sandal wood paste, turmeric, water, sugar cane juice, rice flower, saffron, etc
There about 800 steps to reach this divine place of worship

You should have stayed in shravanbelgola itself. We stayed there one night and it was awesome experience which is difficult to experience again in lifetime.

One very important detail of this statue is the most encient known so far inscription on stone शिलालेख in Marathi is found at the feet of Gomateshwar . " चामुंडराये करवियले ,गंगराज सुत्ताये करवियले " It is in an amazing old style of Marathi . It means this statue was got carved by the king Chamund Ray and सूत अर्थात son of Gangraj "
