Back in 1981, the 49ers were the underdog in every game they played, even after humiliating the Cowboys at Candlestick during the regular season. It ended up being the 1st Super Bowl appearance for them. Every time I hear the other team being predicted to win, I remember 1981, so no worries.

Yeah, right on the head my friend. I would have been one year old at that time sadly I only joined the faithful 3 or so years later first football game I ever watched was the second win vs. the Bengals but your point is exactly right. Keep saying we can't win, we'll keep doing it anyway. I think all real 49ers fans (Not just old schoolers, shout out to the younger fans as long as you're loyal don't go changing hats in a bunch of years when this is the past) have already had their expectations exceeded this year and it gives us a different perspective than some of these guys clinging to their bandwagon colors as they fade away. Think what this team is going to look like next year with another draft class and a year of domination under their young belts. As I said, barely missed those early Montana years but I will say (Sorry Steve and Deion and the last bought super bowl) I haven't seen this kind of solidarity and identity in my team since Joe was pitching to Jerry. Long story short (too late) if the weather conditions are what they're calling I have Niners 17-10

Jimmy G never going to be another 16. Joe was a comeback king from the beginning. Jimmy G in patches shows loads of promise but no I dont see him being another Montana, nor a Young for that matter. I only hope he keeps developing as he is currently then he will write his own stories with a great supporting cast that can all be great memories for future followers. I was spoiled to see the niners from 84 onwards ( First I watched was a loss to the Steelers then it was about a year until I saw another loss) . One of my favourite players from the early years of memories was Tom Rathman coming in to FB after the great Roger Craig. Loved Rathmans ethos that so ably complemented some of the flashier components of the time. Now watching this current crop there are many components which can go on and prove great things for themselves and the niners. Juice is a great fullback and dare I say more cerebral than his 44 predescessor but Rathman was lineman tough. Both reliable catchers, able protectors and run game elements. Bear in mind though even in more winless times we have been blessed with greatness in the ranks. Patrick Willis being a favourite on the D and topical I really enjoyed Frank Gore being a pillar of reliability for the offence. Imagine Gore with Rathman opening the furrow for him ( defences would need a second row of linebackers and they would have been the absolute definition of Smash Mouth).
