Being a B.A in History, the guy is cleaning toilets. He is choosing to do that instead of applying for more relevant and convenient jobs. He is intentionally suffering, which in turn is hampering his studies. And when the time comes at the final interview, he says that he'd become a teacher if he doesn't crack the UPSC exam. Why didn't he say that he will clean toilets then? Because when it suited him, he was cleaning toilets and when it didn't, he was ready to become a teacher. I felt that the story is very manipulative - 1. Overglorifying a government exam 2. And chasing such overhyped dreams instead of actually contributing in the private sector WHICH the small-town Indians conveniently look down upon. It's high time that we stop overglorifying BHARAT and contribute towards INDIA.

I think the aspect of him choosing that government exam in particular was not because he didn't have a choice to become a teacher with his BA degree but because his personality was like his father who couldn't tolerate injustice and thus wanted to be in a position of power like his DSP. Could a position of power be reached in other ways? Yes but he had chosen this way seeing the exam as an opportunity gateway for anyone to rise irrespective of poverty and nil network. When he started preparing first, he had already gone door to door asking if they would let him tutor their children. Later in Delhi, he was surrounded by students having better qualifications or on par with him already. It would be rare to find students seeking classes in BA history or Hindi. it would be trivial to start teaching aspirants without him qualifying till mains or interview prior even once. Thus during the aspirant phase, he stuck to cleaning toilets and whatever job he could find. It was an aspect to show the main character's resilience, adaptability and determination which was closer to Manoj sir's real experiences.

@@MarrowLongsrs-zh6ed It's not shown (atleast in the movie) that he is seeking job opportunities. I don't know from which part of the world you belong to, but in large parts of north central India, employable youth tend to look down upon private jobs. In hordes, they chase government jobs. I find this mindset of looking down upon others' professions in private sector disgusting. You spoke of position of power; that's what it is - To be in that position. And these very people who persevered to clear the exam, go on to misuse that power and cause misery and harassment to their population.

It's true....its overhyped....why intentionally making yourself suffer, if u hate this tht much leave tht... Simple
