Seeing that R23 brought back memories. I used to spanner for Keith Hardy with the Scarborough Racing Dev Imp in the 70s. (My old club rally car before lots of lightening and glass panels) Running in at 5k was like a kangaroo, didn't clear its throat unto 6 and came on with a wallop at 7.5! Great little motor until one of the rods got frightened of the dark flat in top at Croft. Replaced with a Chessman lump which was a work of art, billet carrier etc. Did well but struggled against the space frames and Davrians. Happy days.

Duckhams Q from memory. I spent hours drilling holes everywhere and making panels out of old printing plates! We used a Sturmey Archer bike dynamo as the "charging system"

Recently started watching your videos. I’ve always been interested in restoring an Imp having it been my first car and happy memories helping my day rebuilding std 875. Although you appear to cater for race/rally enthusiasts with deep pockets, have you ever thought of doing a video on your interpretation of a daily use Imp engine, one that’s capable of living with modern traffic whilst being reliable. What cc and setup would you recommend, would throttle bodies and fuel injection be worth the hassle if originality isn’t the aim.

Had a 410 lift cam many years ago - think it ended up with a guy called Nick Cleak if I remember correctly. Wonder if this is that same cam? Keep up the good work Andy. (Oli, Norwich)

Hi Andy, Ed's HT leads cable tied together could cause issues, keep them separated to avoid cross induction issues, Big problem on rover V8s Hence the little comb separators on the Rovers
@thehillmanator9 ай бұрын
yes good point, i think his issues were caused by moisture trapped in the top of the cap after steam cleaning !

35:45 why does anyone build a 1001 cc engine? There are probably just a few places where a 1001 cc engine is going to be a good size for racing, and those are land speed racing courses at Bonneville and El Mirage where a class I engine is 754 cc to 1015 cc. Andy, you really need to take a Hillman Imp to Bonneville where the I/CPRO record is open, and El Mirage where the I/CPRO record is 109.739 mph.

Andy I am learning so much from your technical knowledge who was your mentor ? What happened to the man who was cleaning your machinery. Do the Dutch and Germans have a heart attack when they see the condition of your workshop and Especially your assembly bench! Kit from down under

I've had issues with copper HT leads, the copper can break inside the lead, the HT voltage will then jump the gap inside the lead for a while but gap will get bigger and bigger as the copper is burnt away by the HT, eventually the gap gets too big and you then end up with no spark at the spark plug.
