From 2008 ex comedienne Pamela Stephenson, now a doctor in psychotherapy interviewing her husband, Scottish comedian and actor Billy Connolly. Very frank and absolutely fascinating look into his sad and disturbing past, yet ultimately positive and leaves you feeling much better than when you started. I do not own this programme, entertainment purposes only.

Pamela's a lovely lady. I think Billy meeting her was meant to be. They are a great couple. I suffer depression and suicide attempts, due to a similar form of abuse that Billy suffered. When I went to see my doctor he asked if I had any coping strategies for when I feel suicidal. I told him I have every Billy Connolly DVD, and if I can get to putting Billy in my DVD before the Stanley knife, Billy stops me. He has saved my life so many times. My doctors advice was always keep one of his DVD's in the player and Billy will win more often. I said Billy should be on prescription, and my doctor agreed.

When he said "my father loved me" "and I loved him" its really hit me hard and made me see how incredibly resilient Billy is and that he wasnt justifying his fathers actions but he was giving genuine reasons for the mistake his father made and that hes forgiven him is really touching. Abuse isnt something people tend to forgive but Billy puts it in real life terms not movie terms and I actually see what he means and Im glad it didnt destroy him like it has millions over the globe. As an abuse victim and a rape victim now with PTSD and no light at the end of the tunnel I wish I had Billys strength and wisdom and its only been a decade or so and I hope Im able to look on it one day without all the anger i have right now and maybe not forgive but let it free from the box it lives in deep inside my mind. This interview has helped give me a little hope ❤

@@tarync6539 Firstly I told you to do nothing nor Billy nor advised who you should and shouldn't forgive - so you can cut that paragraph of shite out for a start. I am in a similar boat although it was not my father, but other unrelated persons, but I couldn't imagine how depraved someone's own father is to sexually abuse his own child. What is criminal however is the man did not face criminal charges for actually molesting his own son. That's beyond depravity. I don't understand how anyone can forgive a rapist of children or any human being for that matter. It boggles my mind to how anyone can forgive something as twisted as that. It's a deed only worthy of a slow painful death. Just my personal opinion I'm not advising you on anything pal that's your decision. If I could slowly dispose of the people whom abused me I would but unfortunately they have passed now and I won't get that chance but I would in the blink of an eye. No questions at all. It's caused me a lifetime of pain complex PTSD and BPD which I have to live with for life. I'd dispose of them day and daily and sleep like a baby. Nobody truly forgives their abuser they make peace with it for their own sake.

I always knew that Billy was a very smart man, but I wasn’t aware of just how clever Pamela is. Her questions were so spot on and helped Billy to show his vulnerability. Not many people (especially men) want to share their inner thoughts, but Billy is quite willing to reveal the darker moments of his life and how he copes with the issues of his upbringing in Glasgow. I think that shows a very confident man who is at peace with the world.

Billy is a genius at comedy but he is much more than that. He is a man who is curious about life. He is a thinker that asked why to circumstances and why are people like this? He did the emotional work on himself to get the understanding he has today. He doesn't go around seeing himself as a victim. He took from every experience a life lesson. Something could be learned. Sure he had a lot of pain to handle. I think he learned like the rest of us." Bad stuff happens in life no one escapes it" it's how we choose to look at it that matters. The choices he made determined his future. Thank you Billy for your honesty great entertainment!

There was a lovely bookstore attached to the café and he often could be seen there buying the latest literary tome. One day an Irish woman walked in and her eyes widened: "Is it Billy Connolly then?" Read his wife's memoir. Very amusing, with lots of vignettes of famous people, but also very moving. You'll end up grateful we still got to have him after all he survived.

What a man , what a lady and most of all what a couple , i grew up in the Sixty s in a 2 up 2 down and life was and is exactly how Billy describes it , i was so lucky my dad was the kindest man in the world but it wasn't until he was in his 70s he told me he loved me , But i just knew he did , i went to footie with him , i went on the back of his motorbike to his allotments with him , the pub , so i knew he loved me to spend so much time with me . From the very first concert i went and saw Billy perform to this day , he s always made me feel proud to be working class , ive always held my head up high when im in places i look out of place , And every beating i took from my mother i felt made me a better person because i knew how to treat my kids , because when things got tough i never hit them because i always remembered how i felt , but what i did do was teach them what was right and wrong so they could understand , im so proud to say i now have 7 gkids , Billy you will always be a little below my father, but you will always be one of my heros thou you dont know me from adam 💙👍

One of the most remarkable interviews I've ever listened to. It dug into some of my past that I've struggle with for years, until I came to terms with it, very like Mr. Connolly. His perceptions and truths are spot on and I shall listen to this from time to time, just to remind myself that generosity of spirit makes us all the better for it. In my mind Billy Connolly is a national treasure. Bravo Pamela and Billy!!

Billy was a shining light to a generation. Through his example, we saw it was okay to be an individual in what was a basically a herd based society. For that I am grateful. Bless you Billy.

A psychotherapist interviewing her husband...what a fine balancing act, especially when discussing him and his feelings about his mother leaving him...she began psychoanalyzing his feelings and finally let him express himself--Bravo!!!

Jean Ricard Bertrand......Your assessment that his wife was "psychoanalizing his feelings" is completely incorrect and a very good example of a specifically technical skill, which is utterly misunderstood, as soon as it enters the patois of common usage.

I worked backstage on a Billy Connolly show at the Regal Theatre in Perth, W.A. I commented to him on the odd socks he was wearing. "Wear what you like," he said."it's not who you are. There are more important things."

Pamela is the saviour of Billy though, and a wonderful person with an enormous heart, God bless her. Such a good feeling to see this wonderful couple cope with what life has thrown at them, a lesson to all of us. Get well Billy x, and thank you for the years of laughter you have given to us.

Billy, to me, is someone who owns the courage to be truly himself, come what may. He is, as we all are, unique. His gift for shining a bright light on darkness and a sense of humour that shows up political correctness for exactly what it is will endear him to me for the rest of my life. To be true to myself by BEING myself, every day, for the rest of my life would be the greatest tribute I could possibly give to any other human being on the face of this amazing planet. Thank you BILLY CONNELLY for such a wonderful gift.
