The problem with Astro bot winning this, is that it is literally Mario, but PlayStation only when released. So many people haven’t even HEARD of this game. So many people have switches/xbox/pc and so forth, yet a game that’s only played by one community is game of the year? It doesn’t even have half the playtime as so many of these other games or near the peak in players as 100s of other games

Say what you want, but FF7 Rebirth was the MOST deserving of GOTY. That game completely blew expectations out of the water, the performances from the voice actors was masterclass, the music was the best the series has ever had, and sheer scope and size of the game being recreated into what it is completely shits a hot steamy log on every game that came out this year and its not even close you rose tinted hallway simulator, boss rush, wukong lovers.

most streamers didnt do to recognition reasons and it shows. asatro bot is not a ideal streaming game vs black myth, but astro bot is more ideal for video uploading then wukong since (and super blunt here) most ppl that watch wukong vids watch it ONLY for streamers reaction to it. astrobot isnt reactable but its more charming/mechanically to look at and ignore the youtuber tbh. also if ppl unaware with this years game awards it is HEAVILY leaned more to older games and it shows. from the game announcements, who won other categories, gaming guests and such this is meant for the ppl that heavily gamed from 90s/mid 2000s. you still get newer stuff and modern creators mentioned but they were not the core focus for game awards 2024, they were side shows.

It's nothing special that's the problem, it's a fun little throwaway game but it doesn't do anything crazy, graphics aren't great, story is basically nonexistent, nothing all that innovative with the gameplay. It's a fine game, but it's not GOTY material, Granted GOTY doesn't even matter the entire Award show is a bit of a joke from the get go so who cares at the end of the day anyways.
