I've never taken a drink of alcohol in my life. Period... So I used to think like this until I studied the Scriptures. God considered wine to give "gladness to the hearts of men" (Psalms 104 : 15). There were, also, times that God took the wine from His people for disobedience. Not to mention the Lord turning water into the finest of wines (John 2 : 10). Jesus, himself, even drank wine (Luke 7 : 33 - 34). However, if one looks to hold the office of "bishop" within the church he should not be "given to wine" (1 Timothy 3 : 3) and "deacons" not given to "much wine." The sin comes from excess... of anything... which is idolization. It should, also, be considered that most of the wines back then were not like some 100 proof stuff we have nowadays; That you can light on fire. I tend to say that liquors called "Spirits" are called that for a reason... And they're not the holy ones, either. God's people only drank of the "fruit of the vine" with a meal, with others. Not hops, corn, etc... And not by yourself, alone without food. Which can lead to alcoholism. That being said drink responsibly, and be merry! 😎🍷

As a long time drinker I can say there's no way of really knowing what's going to get you intoxicated. Saying it's ok to drink just not be intoxicated defeats the point of drinking in the first place. Very few people drink hard liquor STRICTLY for the taste. And I have had three bottles of a certain wine with no effect and I've been drunk off two glasses. You sometimes cant predict what will get you intoxicated and again I would say half the people who drink alcohol don't do it to get black out drunk. It happens because today's tolerance might not be next week's tolerance.

I certainly can tell when I'm about to reach that point, that's when I stop. I've been drunk before. I know my tolerance and therefore know my drink limit no matter the level of alcohol that's in my drink. It's called self awareness. So again just b/c you can't determine it doesn't mean it's impossible for others

Oh man, I had to repent for telling people to "Stop drinking, stop smoking, and stop sleeping around and THEN come to church!" If they could deliver themselves from these habits and addictions, they wouldn't NEED a Savior! We have kept so many people out Church because we don't want them openly sinning in "our" church! We all need deliverance, especially from our secret sins. Romans 3:10, says "there is none righteous, not even one," and I believe it! No wonder we have been called hypocrites day and night! Thank God for a generation of Believers that is changing this! So please please please find a church home that accepts you as you are and never condemns you when you slip! The day after my first time drinking my friends told me that I was outside looking and pointing into the sky saying I see Jesus, and asking them if they saw Him too. It’s the “drunkard” that is sinful in God’s eyes just as a glutton. The sin comes with overindulgence. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding in the Bible and Jesus does not act with hypocrisy. The thought is to have self control in all you do with God’s standards in mind. @r2 I understand what you are saying however I was talking about the subject at hand which is a person drinking and worshipping God. We cannot judge a person's heart. That is God's job. None of us are perfect even if we feel like we are doing everything right when it comes to serving God. If we are focused on God and our serving as best as we know how, we don't have time to cast our judgement on someone else because we are not without our on areas that need work too. I believe in praying for people and encouraging them rather than casting stones at them for everything just as Jesus intercedes for us with the Father.

that still doesnt validate what she said, you dont just overcome every obstacle the very same day you decide to turn to Jesus.You will still always have human fleshly struggles. you might still struggle with alcohol for two years or maybe for the rest of your life. there will never be a sinless person on this earth (besides Jesus) because god made it that way. this statement is bigger than just alcohol because at the end of the day we're just talking about sinning and the sin of being drunk isnt any better or worse than any other sin. so lets try this.. you cant lie to your boss and still worship God, you cant have pre marital sex and still worship God, you cant be envious and still worship God, you cant fight and still worship God you cant curse at someone and still worship God ect.. all these things are sins just like drinking so i guess we're all disqualified from God

I used to think wine was for people who couldn't handle their liquor. I usually stick to liquor and only had wine in sangria's. I can hold my liquor very well, so I made the mistake of believing I could overindulge with my first bottle of red wine. To gloss over very gross details, I ended up sleeping inside my tub with the water running. I no longer even look at red wine anymore. I now side eye every self proclaimed wine mom.
