My favorite Shulk and Rex cutscene is them talking about their kids and how jarring it is to finally run into them. Shulk plays the dad role so well (thank you Dunban) that he gives Rex some wisdom and that's such a great interaction

It's funny to me that you point at Shulk's anger as something you didn't like about him. To me, it was that very same aspect of his personality that humanized him to me on my initial playthrough. Throughout the story, Shulk is in a constant struggle between his rational engineering mind and getting swept up in his emotions. I personally relate to that struggle a lot. On that same note, it's interesting that Shulk has a new Art in Future Redeemed called Monado Rage. It indicates that his anger is very much still a part of him, and not something he can just "let go" of in the way others can. (After all, with the world in shambles and their plans for Origin going sideways in a way no one could've predicted, what's not to get angry about? Everyone he knew from the base game is dead, with the exception of Melia, whose captured by Moebius.) Shulk should reasonably be angier than ever. And yet, he's gained the skills and maturity to channel that anger into something useful: a brand-new Monado Art. What was once his greatest flaw is now being used to protect the people he cares about that are still around.

People saying this is not what they expected of Rex surprise me. He’s only forceful when his child is wanting to throw their life away or later when she wants to help but he knows she’s too weak. And getting a bit forceful when his loved ones want to throw their lives away is very much how he was in XC2. And Glimmer is basically Mini Mythrs. Probably does require force every now and then.

Ya know. Rex isn’t over protective. He’s responsible. Glimmer well earned that lecture. If she kept that act up, she’d be dead. It’s great to have a good relationship with your kid, but you’re their parent before their friend and I think that’s reflective in Rex. As for not wanting them to fight Alpha. Are you gonna invite your kids to a life threatening duel with someone you already lost to? No absolutely not.

I'm not sure if "overprotective" is the right way to say it. He's a lot more of a "I'm in charge, so what I say goes, missy" kind of parent at first. The only reason he changes his tune is because Glimmer is just as, if not more stubborn than he is

@@ninjapotatolorf6237 I think it’s more so that they’re in a bleak situation, and he’s making the best of it. His daughter has one year of life left, he can’t exactly start telling her how to live her life with only a couple months left on her clock. He is acting as a perfectly normal parent though.

I loved the inclusion of shulk and Rex! I never played xenoblade 2 I only watched Chuggaconroys let’s play of it so being able to finally play as Rex was a huge treat and shulk is my favorite protag in the series! It was a proper sendoff to see them again

it was very small but i really enjoyed the part where rex referenced nia in talking about the ouroboros stone and went on about how important it was, though it was very clear by the heavy emotion in his voice he wasn't simply talking about the stone, and shulk gives this very soft condolence by his name at the end. it reminds you that these previously seen as protective people to a fault are widowed men who have lost so much, i felt for them in that moment.

Shulk and Rex were great with their kids for sure, and as mentors for Panacea and Linka. Their inclusion just made FR so much better. I really wish MonolithSoft would release an official family tree of some sort!

Rex actually takes inspiration from 3 people, but mostly from Vandahm, there are a few cues from zeke and morag though, the coat is clearly zekes and he uses morag’s fighting style

If you see shulk as angry you’re misreading him in Xenoblade 1, I mean obviously there’s some anger towards the mechon for what they did, but he was always extremely conflicted on acting on that anger what sets shulk apart from a lot of other revenge driven characters in fiction is shulk wants revenge but he is never obsessed with it and it makes him fairly unique

I understand what you're saying, and yet I do have to disagree slightly. Yeah, Shulk's anger definitely isn't the only thing that defines him. There's a lot more emotional depth wrapped up in how he lashes out against the Mechon. Yet, that anger is still a core part of his character. Learning how best to channel it and balance it is a core part of his character development.

I played the crap out of XB2 during a rough patch of life. Same with Xenogears and Xenosaga 2 and 3…. so Monolithsoft is sorta a comfort for me. Seeing Rex and Shulk and Nia and Melia, and listening to them reminisce. To see all of them grown as individuals was so touching. Great video! Subscribed!

This was awesome video. I just have one this that confuse me. If Glimmer is Rex daughter and most like Mio is to with Nia as her mother, then who is Rex others kid? As im very sure the ending of xenoblade 3 basic says Rex has kids with Pyra, Mithra and Nia.

If Shulk is the father of Nicole, then who is Chris???? I know Rex, Pyra, and Nia had Glimmer and Mio. But I assume Chris, was Shulk’s first child, and Nicole, what’s the second. But I remember that flashback in the main game , where Chris has been around for 1000 of years, and he wasn’t being reincarnated repeatedly. He was pretending to be a soldier because he’s from the original universes. Which mean he’s been this world and age slower than everyone else native to this world. similar to the queens. Which means Chris could be the son of Rex and Myra????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

From what I remember Crys was just another Kevesi soldier part of the flow who established the practice of Offseeing. He could be a son of Shulk but after seeing Nikol who has a stronger connection, I think Crys might just be another normal Kevesi. I'm not sure if his aging was explained, I assumed he was the same age as other Kevesi soldiers in his later terms.

@@nishquikpops The queens, Rex, Shulk, especially Riku who is over 1000 years old and looks exactly the same, that’s also Teach who was the previous commander of a different colony 10 terms ago, and was just pretending to be a soldier, but since he’s from the original universe, he ages slower. Crys is either the eldest son of Shulk or Rex’s and Myra son. it seems to me that anyone from the original universe, ages slower. Rex and Shulk age slower, because time itself has been slow down when origin was activated and manipulated by Z and Moebius. And the aging slower , it’s just a side effect of slowing down time.

​@@texben123 well, Crys being a kevesi soldier basically guarantees that he was shulk's son, since all characters from keves come from xb1 Also, Teach's affinity chart info literally states that he is in his 10th term, so that means he is fully in the flameclock cycle, no slowed down aging for him. This also means that Mio is older than teach, since he's still around in the ending cutscene

Shulk was better handled in the story and relationship with his son. Rex was better handled in gameplay, like his dual wielding fighting style and the "Cooking With Rex" quest chain

Some of Rex pre/post battle quotes display an overconfidence and smugness I'm not too fond of. XC2 Rex was never the guy to brag or act all highty and mighty. Sure, he looks up to Zeke a lot, but I wish he also got some composure from Morag who also was a bit of a mentor figure to him.
